So I thought it would be a good day to take my bonded pair of rabbits outside, Binkies and Tulip. I never thought it would turn out this way!

I took the both of them out in their brand new play area. It is made of softwood that is extra chewable, but a little bit flimsy. They were just chillin’, eating grass, and I noticed Tulip loved to chew on the wood. Then, I noticed that Tulip suddenly started to sneeze a whole lot. It was just starting to rain anyway, so I figured I would take them both inside. So I did, and I also started to clean up their litterbox. While I was in their cage, cleaning up waste that had fallen out of the litterbox, Tulip stayed right by my side while Binkies caused trouble, as usual. Tulip started to have a sneeze attack, I looked at her, and a massive splinter came out of her nose! My jaw dropped. She cleaned it off her face and chewed on it a little more.

I don’t think I’ll be using that playpen again.

Wow! No. I wouldn’t either. Plus, soft wood is often pine, and even if untreated, pine’s usually not safe for bunnies due to the naturally occurring oils in it. That was so incredibly lucky that Tulip didn’t get that splinter lodged somewhere. It would most likely have caused an abscess. Lucky girl… and lucky bunny mom.

Goodness, lucky she managed to get it out!

I recently saw a short clip of a vet removing a hay seed (i think) that had logde right up a rabbits nose. It brought on a sneeezing attacks also. it was only discovered after they’d done a CT scan.

Pfff… silly bunbuns. Don’t they know that ‘nose candy’ does NOT include bits of pokey cellulose?
