I’ve been recommended by my new buns’ foster mom to get some inexpensive vinyl flooring rolls from Home Depot or Lowes for their exercise and play space. I’m pretty sure it needs to not be too smooth and have some traction for their feet to get a firm purchase on, so if you use such, what variety/varieties do you suggest?

I’ve looked into vinyl flooring before, and it seems like almost all of it is still just as slippery as wood flooring . What kind of flooring is in their play space now?

Sorry, I should have clarified – I’m still in the process of getting together everything they need for when they come home. I’m planning to get their playpen from one of the supply folks at Friends of Rabbits who has an extra 42″-inch-high 8-panel set to hand. The flooring will go on top of my carpet. I guess I’ll have to check back again with my buns’ foster mom to see if she had any specific brand in mind.

I think carpet would be ok (Luna runs around on carpet). But there is a chance they will chew/rip it up (Luna went through a phase of that but didn’t ingest any carpet fibers). If you do find a vinyl flooring you like, please share .

I discussed it again with P and F’s foster mom after I went to Lowes (where I did find a nice cardboard concrete form that’ll make a dandy tunnel for the buns ) and didn’t see anything there in the flooring/matting section that looked suitable. She recommends natural-fiber carpet from Ikea, so I’m going to drive out there Saturday (the day before Panda and Fernando arrive, eek! ) and see what they have; she says it’s not too expensive there for a 4′ x 6′ swatch which is what I’ll need. I have the X-pen itself in hand, having picked it up yesterday; it’s a rather snazzy gold-colored pen with 42″-high panels that are 2′ long each, eight in total including a door panel for a floor area up to 4′ x 6′. I plan to find some kind of easy-release attachment to connect it to the bunny condo when it’s in use so the bunnies don’t decide to emulate The Great Escape.

I think I’ve found the right thing at last for the buns’ play area, natural-fiber sisal carpet from IKEA:

                    http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00280492/#/60270305

It comes in two sizes; the larger one, 2’7″ x 7’10”, which will cover the X-pen area nicely, goes for $39.99 and is in stock at the local store. My reading indicates that sisal is rabbit-safe though, as always with non-food items, one should monitor to ensure that the bunnies don’t over-ingest it.

That’s a good idea! Definitely looks like it has good traction. I hope it works .

I went to Lowes and bought 12×12 peel and stick tiles for the converted crib hutch and they work fine. 0.40c each.

Got the sisal carpet today at IKEA, and I also bought a stool to sit on when I’m in the playpen socializing with the buns. My knees aren’t what they used to be, so it’s not always possible for me to kneel or squat properly on the floor; the bunnies’ foster mother graciously provided a stool for me to sit on this morning while I was having a pre-homecoming visit with Panda and Fernando, which gave me the idea.
