I was surprised to see Clem is more of an oat hay bunny, I’ve been buying various hays lately to spoil her a bit, once a month and I haven’t seen her be so voracious for hay until now.

She would get into the bag while I wasn’t looking, so I had to dump out the rest onto a plate. She’d spend all day eating it rather than playing. And now that it’s gone she digs the plate hoping for some to come out.  We got a new bag today though so she’s celebrating.

My bun is a baby, and I’ve only tried one other hay with her (Timothy) the hay she was raised on (Orchard) is actually not as tasty to her as the timothy hay, which surprised me as a new rabbit owner, I’ve read that most rabbits tend to like Orchard grass hay more than other kinds because it’s sweeter and richer.

Aside from alfalfa, the obvious favorite, both my buns really like oat hay too! but they are so wasteful….they only eat the oat bulbs and leave the “stalk”! I hate to buy it because so much is wasted, but I always cave because I know they love it!

Clem wasn’t so into alfalfa hay as I expected, I’ve given it to her but she’d waste most of it. Orchard is one I’ll have to try next.
I’m glad mine doesn’t pick off anything, I’d be frustrated if she was that picky xD
The funniest thing I’ve seen her do is eat the oat out of the hay holder from the outside, we use those plastic ones that hold it on the outside and let the pieces poke through the cage bars.

Thor also goes crazy for oat hay Our new bun, Boo, seems to be more of an orchard hay dude. This is good since I bought 10lbs of orchard hay a while back to tempt Thor and she turned up her nose it it. I guess every bunny’s different!

My two are fussy little monsters and the only hay they would eat good amounts of is Friendly Green Oat Readigrass. Although with my monthly hay order I also purchased a bag of Friendly Timothy Readigrass and they are enjoying that  I only bought one bag of it though so it’s their treat hay at the moment (I give them the oat grass 24/7 obviously but only give them a handful of the timothy grass each day) Next month I’ll buy plenty of both to alternate

Oxbow Orchard. The most expensive hay at the pet store….stinkers… I used to get hay for free from a stable but they didn’t want that. They prefer I spend $50 a bag…. And they poop on about 1/3 of it….

                      Stolen hay.

Otherwise they will eat whatever they are given which is mostly meadow hay. But if they can steal someone else’s hay or (even better) break into my hay supply, that’s the best hay.

So many spoiled buns here. I never heard of the brand Friendly Green Readigrass, is it good? I’ve been using Oxbow and got a 50 lbs box today, it sure was fun pushing it around the house, only to see it didn’t fit it the bun closet.

Bianca your bunnies sure have the faces of thieves, that’s so cute. xD

$50 a bag sounds insane, I spent $53 for the 50lbs of timothy. I know your pain with the wasting of hay.

Peanut and Buttercup say the Readigrass is the tastiest hay they’ve ever had  It’s very green and lovely looking. I think it’s a little higher in protein than other hays though not as much as alfalfa so you’ll have to watch your bun’s weight if you try it

Olaf loves his Oxbow Orchard, too. It’s his everyday “unlimited” hay which works for me since I was wheezing with timothy hay.

I also give him a big handful of oat hay in the morning. He’ll eat most of it in small portions – if it were his everyday hay, he gets picky with it and doesn’t eat the thick stems, so I try to use it as a treat to keep from wasting too much.

Breintje has always been a lousy hay eater. For some reason he’s used to eating the stuff in his litter box… It’s cheap non-brand hay from the supermarket, and he still eats it when it’s been soiled. 0_o

To encourage him to eat more hay we’ve started to feed him special hay from the pet store. It’s from the Vitakraft brand and contains dandelions. We’ve put the hay rack on the other side of the cage, so most of it doesn’t fall into his litter box when he eats. He seems to like it, and even hops into his cage for a couple of nibbles.

I’ll have to get some Readigrass and try it some time, I hope Clem loves it too.

I’ve noticed she’s starting to be a bit picky with the oat hay today but still shows more interest than with timothy

I’ve also wanted to try that hay with dandelions in it, we used to have dandelions out in the backyard but they’re dead now. If you’re lucky he won’t start flinging it in his cage, the hay rack in this house went from a tool to a toy (the metal one).

Mine just get meadow hay – it’s all I can get where I am except Timothy hay which is ridiculously overpriced here and would cost me $10 a day …

Orchard grass for sure. My bun wouldn’t touch Timothy hay and now that I’ve switched he’s a hay eating machine!
