I want to introduce my new bunny named Bella! I got her today (August 1st) and i’m very happy about it. She’s 3 months old, has blue eyes, and is black and white (there are some white and some black spots idk how to explain I don’t know her breed yet but i’m going to the vet tomorrow so i’m gonna check that out and see when will i spay her and get her shots for myxomatosis and other diseases. I’m keeping her next to Mile for 4 days just so they can get used to each other and learn to relax and then i’ll let them meet in a non-familiar territory. I am very suprised to see how Bella Is playful and she doesn’t feel any threat when i’m petting her or sitting near her cage. She even layed out on her stomach with her feet behind her and started munching on some hay. Mile and Bella are totally relaxed and lay with their legs streched out and it has been just a couple of hou rs! Is this a rare occurrence or just two rabbits chillin’ with no problem? When i went to a pet store to buy her I really liked her And the sellers told me that she was the most spoiled and playful bunny out of the bunch. I really liked her personality and it didn’t take too long to decide. Mile is shy but playful, he loves showing affection by licking and jumping on me but likes to be alone too. Bella in the other case is totally different from him, she seems like an extrovert and Mile is an ambivert i guess. Well i still haven’t met her that well. Time will show her traits and behaviour! Thanks for reading

Congrats and welcome. Bella sounds lovely.

But… please don’t attempt to pre-bond (or bond!) until at least a month after her spay. Despite her relaxed attitude, she needs time to settle in, then after her spay she needs at least a month (sometimes two) for her hormones to dissipate. Attempting to bond before that could be disastruous (grudges, injuries, even death). I don’t mean to frighten you, but there are a lot of bonding stories (successful and failed) on this forum…

Went to the vet yesterday, he said she’ll get spayed at 5 months of age. No worries, i’m definitely not willing of messing up their few days of “friendship”. The vet told me i leave them to get used to each other and their smells for about 7 days and then i let them in an unfamiliar place for them to meet. I do what my veterinarian recommends although i’m not sure.. Should i “met them” with each other? I understand that fighting might occur and leave rabbits in wounds. He also told me that Mile will “jump” on Bella, but that’s an animal’s instinct. Should i listen to my vet or leave them until she’s spayed and has healed?

Congrats on the new addition . They absolutely should NOT physically meet until a few weeks after she is spayed, but it is ok for them to be close enough to see each other in separate cages (a few inches apart so they can’t nip each other through the bars). Even though they aren’t showing any problem being together right now, at any minute there can (and will) suddenly be a fight if they stay together. Don’t worry – you’ll be able to reunite them in a few months .

OK, thanks. I don’t wanna take risks. Will have to wait 3 months or more but patience is key!
