I have a female rabbit (Thumper) and I opened her cage in a closed area to let her trust me more and I spent almost an hour with her running around and so I needed her in the cage because I was getting tired and I got her in there by just saying “come on let’s go in the cage thunder.” and she went in the cage and I so I gave her a treat that I got from the pet store and so then I gave some leaves that my aunt said I could give the rabbit because “it’s like alfalfa.” She said so I open the cage back up and she tried getting back out and I think she wanted to explore more or something but I accidentally put my hand under her chin and I went to give her a the leaves and she took it in a nippy way that she hasn’t before and she like threw it on the ground and then she sniffed my hand because it was near her and the she like nibbled/nipped me and i don’t know much on how to switch this around.

It sounds like your rabbit just wanted you to get out of her way so she could get back out (an hour exploring isn’t much for a bunny, they need over 4 hours excercise time a day normally)

She wanted to get out. Your hand was in the way. Hence she nipped you.

She most likely wanted you out of the way. Or she could’ve had a nibble thinking you were food, rabbits have a blind spot in front of their nose, so they can’t see what’s there.

If it has been real aggression she’d have bit you proper. Some buns, esp girl buns, can be very defensive when they’re in their cage though. It’s an instinct they carry with them from when they were wild animals and needed to defend their warren. If you have a cage aggressive bun, it’s best not to handle her when she’s in the cage, and to clean the cage when she isn’t in it.

Rabbits do “speak” quite a lot with their teeth. Some will nip if you stop petting them, for example. They are genetically wired to communicate with other rabbits, and rabbits have protective fur.

My bunny nips me or nudges me when she wants me to move. She probably wanted to explore a bit longer, as three hours is an absolute minimum for exercise

Haha, that is a very good way to put it!

TimTim had quite the conversation with my big toe at the beginning of the week.

@Sabastian, rabbits will nearly always pounce, nip or toss things (ie. your hand) when a hand is put directly in front of their face.
