Are small poops always a sign of stasis? Right now my rabbit has some small poops mixed in with normal sized. He is still pooping a lot, maybe only slightly less than what is normal. Most of them are normal sized, some are only slightly smaller, and just a few are really small.

He is still eating his greens and hay like normal and also drinking water.

I have been working 8+ hour days, 4 days a week, which is new. The other day when I can home he had destroyed a couple different sections of carpet, I think he was bored and lonely. I don’t think he consumed much, if any, because it was all piled up next to the hole but he definitely could have consumed some.

If he had a blockage, would the poops get smaller first or just stop all together?

What steps should I take to prevent this from turning into stasis?

        THANKS!

Small poops can be a sign of stress too… with a blockage the poops taper off and stop altogether, so I’d say make sure this can’t happen again, and in the meantime keep an eye on regular feeding and toileting. If either seems to stop, vet asap.

Is he shedding? My buns often get smaller poops when they are shedding. If yes, make sure to groom him thoroughly every day to avoid ingested hair.

Thanks for your responses! I am going to keep a very close eye on his litter box and also make sure he is getting more exercise, attention, and hydration.
It probably is due to stress because of my new work schedule. He is not used to being alone so much so I will make sure I get him the attention he wants!

I will also groom him more. His shedding has calmed down a bit in the last few weeks but it can’t hurt to brush him more just to make sure!!!

Small poops can also be a sign of teeth problems. Observe him while he’s eating hay and see if he goes to chew pieces of hay, but starts spitting them out more frequently than a usual “Nevermind, this piece of hay tastes gross”. Wick tends to only chew hay on the side of his mouth that’s not irritating him as well, while when his teeth are fine, the hay will juggle between the two sides or stay centered.
