I have noticed that my bunny Noctis is producing smaller, black poop. He is still eating and drinking as normal, his intake of hay could be better but he’s always been a bit of a pain with eating it. I’m super worried that he could be getting GI Stasis. Is this anything to worry about? No change in personality, still a happy bun!

Smaller blacker poop, esp smaller, is an observandum. Will he eat more hay if you hand feed it? Could you buy a small pack of a different type of hay than the one he has and see if that entices him to eat more?

Freshly rinsed vegs, dripping wet, can also have some effect if a bun has a gut slowdown. Parsley is often appreciated, and has long tough fibers.

Smaller poop indicates not enough roughage. Darker poop can be normal, it depends a lot on how moist the food is and/or much the bun drinks. Wild bunnies have darker poop in the summer when they eat lots of fresh grass and herbs, in the winter, when they have to rely on dry winter grass, the poop become much lighter. I frequently make this observation where I live.

            Thank you for the reply.
He does it a tiny amount of hay, both of my buns are a pain when it comes to eating hay, they go off it very quickly and that means I have to go out searching for another brand!
He is eating everything else fine, pellets/fresh veg/herbs. And he is drinking plenty of water.
I will have to have a look around for different hay!
