Hi guys, I adopted Cinnabun about 2 weeks ago, she is 6 years old and just got spayed about 3 weeks ago. I have been having problems litter training her but I seemed to have fix that by moving the litter box to a different location. I want her to be free roam but because she had issues litter training I’ve blocked off her area to just the kitchen to prevent her from peeing/pooing everywhere. There are still a few droppings here and there but definitely not as much. She’s also gotten more used to me and her aggression has gone way down since last week which is good, she likes pets now and for the past week she has been in pretty good shape!

This morning when I went to feed her breakfast, however, I walked into the kitchen and discovered a HUGE mess. No pee/poo everywhere, but rather, hay from digging from what seems like litter box digging was scattered all over her area, her fleece blanket was thrown across the space, and her cardboard box was upside down and on the other side of her space. She looked at me all cute like “breakfast?” and she was very excited to see me, the second I stepped in she kept booping my legs and asking for pets. I’m wondering why she made such a mess and if there is something she doesn’t like. She is definitely getting more and more rambunctious as time goes on. Any input would be helpful, thank you guys!!!

Destruction could be a sign of boredom, but in this instance I think it was more like random rambunctiousness . Sometimes Luna will go destructo-bun for a day out of the blue. Is there a digging box or more toys you could put in her area? Since she is still perfecting her litter box skills, I would continue keeping the area blocked, and then once she gets the hang of it then slowly expand the area. Slowly expanding her area will help prevent a flood of territorial marks all over the house.

Bunnies love making a mess. I sometimes come downstairs in the morning to see absolute carnage lol. I don’t think it means they don’t like something, destruction is just a fun activity for them!

Sounds about right, I don’t really have many toys for her except for a cardboard box. I’ve bought some bunny friendly toys off the internet so hopefully those will be here soon! There’s not many rabbit/pet stores in the Boston area so I can’t really shop locally.

Also, any suggestions on when to begin expanding her area? I was so happy when I came home from work today – NOT A POO OR PEE IN SIGHT! She’s been pretty good this past week, only a few poops (maybe 3-4) outside of her litter box, but never this clean. I hope to expand her area as quickly as possible but don’t want to rush it – I’m sure she would love to just run around in a larger space.

LOL You might be surprised to discover that she ignores every cool toy you bought her and would rather toss around your house slippers or something. Give her random odd (but bunny safe) things like an old key ring or a tatty phone book – this is the type of stuff that can end up an effective bun toy
