        It 12am.
Please don’t say anything mean I’m stupid and it’s my fault, I already am aware of this. I had my baby bunny in a basket on my bed with a blanket on top of the basket. Stargazer was sleeping so I didn’t want to bother him. I went to the bathroom and when I came back my bunny Daisy and him were on the floor and she was attacking him I was so scared I got him out of the fight quickly, and brought him to the bathroom. He had a deep wound on his neck and hip and pulled fur. Then on his other hip there was a cut that was bleeding. I’m so sad and angry at myself for letting this happen. I put antibiotic cream on the cuts and put him in his cage. He’s only 6 weeks old. I’m praying he will live, but I know I can’t count on it. The wounds are bad. Oh my poor poor baby, what have I done?? It’s all my fault. anything else I can do? Please send get well vibes, I’m just so sad and scared. I love him. I’ve only had him for a day.
I know this is my fault and that I’m dumb so please don’t remind me, I just want to know how I can help him.

You should try to get to a vet as soon as you can. They may be able to tend to his wounds better. Not to patronize you, I understand it was an accident but its preventable. You have to keep them separated, they will fight. Separated does not mean in the same room, they have to be completely apart. I know it’s so scary because the same thing happened with my buns, except I was in the room and was able to separate it before anyone was hurt besides some fur. Since then, I have put up two baby gates to block Ophelia from getting to my room. You have to take whatever measures you can to keep them separated. This little guy is only 6 weeks old and shouldn’t even be away from his mother yet, so he wasalready vulnerable before the fight. Keep a close eye on him through the night and try to get to the vet for wound care and maybe some mothers milk substitutes because he should still be on that until 8 weeks. There may be recipes you can look up online. For the meantime, it’s just very crucial that you keep them separated, is there any way you can get them in separate rooms? You cannot trust your rabbit to be around him at all now that they have had a fight- trust me!!! She will be quite territorial and agitated now, and he is probably terrified. They both need a complete separation and reset. I hope he heals up well, hang in there little stargazer. Do you have pictures of the wounds? Are they superficial at least?

Yes, with one wound being at the neck, this is concerning. I think a vet visit is in order also.

Is the bunny bleeding or is it like skin tears but no bleeding?

The little one may get a bit shocky so keeping it warm will be helpful. Monitor temperature if your are able. If the ears are becoming really cold and it is trembling, it could be going into shock.

            Sending {{{vibes}}} !

He’s still alive, it’s been about an hour. Thankful he’s still alive. But I don’t know if it will last.
The neck cut was deep. But it hasn’t been bleeding really from the outside. It’s not showing though, I put his skin overtop of it. (Kind of hard to explain) the hip one was bleeding, they’re on both sides. The hip bite was the one that seemed to be hurting him. I’m so dumb they’re bleeding a little bit. One side was bleeding worse. His ears are warm, not hot, not cold. I’m just so scared, I’ve been cuddling him all day, I’ve already fallen in love with him. Poor little guy for going through this. I really hope he lives, I keep praying. If he dies, I don’t know how I’ll live with myself.
Like I’ve said, I put antibiotic cream on, he seemed to be licking his cuts. Will that harm him? If he makes it tonight, should I put saline in his cuts tomorrow to help disinfect? I don’t even know how they got to each other, my older one must’ve jumped on my bed and grabbed him, but she never goes on my bed. He was pretty protected in the basket too, I was gone for about 3 minutes. I hope he’s okay I’m just so worried.

                (((((VIBES)))))

He definitely needs to see a vet. If the cuts are deep, he will need stitches. As said by the others, the cut on the neck is also cause for alarm.

Is he eating/drinking/toileting? The big thing I would be worried about, aside from the neck cut, is shock. Rabbits can easily go into shock after being attacked.

The antibiotic cream shouldn’t harm but do not use any that has added pain relief.

I personally cannot advise further on wound care as I think it is something that requires vet attention. When 2 of my rabbit fought and one got a wound on the underside of hind leg, the vet stapled it for over the weekend and she had oral antibiotics. Then she had to go in and have the wound stitched at beginning of that week.

If he was in shock don’t you think he would have already died? If been about an hour and a half. I mean I’m not sure if they’re deep, but on the neck my bunny just ripped his skin off but it still connected by one side. So I just lined it up with the cut. Can anyone tell me what’s the difference between a neck cut and the cut on his hip? Why is the cut on his neck more alarming? I can’t take him to the vet now because it’s midnight where I live.

There is no added pain relief, I made sure to check. I will see how he is in the morning. I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep tonight. Too scared to look in his cage because I’m too afraid to see if he died or not.

Are there emergency vet (out of hours vet) services where you live?

The neck wound was worrisome because it is near a major blood and nerve supply.

Seconding emerg vet services, if possible. Since your bunny’s wounds will have to be disinfected and properly closed and they should be able to give him painkillers.

You did well to clean the wounds and put antibiotic on them. Keep him warm, gently run a finger from nose to tail to mimic grooming, and try to speak to him very softly once in a while – it can help calm and prevent shock.

Then as soon as your town wakes up in the morning, get him to a vet. If possible, have someone drive you so you can continue soothing contact and warmth for Stargazer.

I’m so sorry this happened…. I can imagine how frightened you both must feel right now.

How’s your other rabbit? Is she allowing you to come near her or still defensive?

My other bunny was perfectly fine 5 minutes after the fight. She just came right up to me how she usually does. Even if Stargazer makes it I couldn’t imagine them ever being friends. I’d be too scared to try to bond them…

Anyway, Stargazer made it through the night, if he had gone into shock, would he have already died?
I saw him drinking some water. I mostly stayed up with him the whole night.
Right now it looks like he’s just sleeping in the bun-loaf position. I will call a vet now that it’s morning and see what he says.

I think it’s a good idea to bring him in to the vet anyway. Because he is so young, you want to get a full work up on him to understand the extent of the injuries and how to proceed. You may still be able to bond them, but you would need to do a complete reset and have them in separate rooms without access to each other so they forget each other. Well at least that is what is suggested with a fight, but this was pretty severe. I would really take him in to the vet because like the others said, the neck wound could cause complications, and you just want to make sure you are giving the little guy his best shot.

If he needs stitches, hopefully the vet can do this by just using a local anaesthetic. If he has to have a full anaesthetic, it will be good some food in in his system. At least you will know when he last ate as he might not want to after the vet appointment right away.

For the record, shock is more of a symptom than a killer. Shock can cause heart attacks, seizures, stasis, ect which can all kill. Thats why it was important to make sure he started to eat, drink, and toilet. Since he did those three, he should be in the clear for shock

Glad to hear you were able to get a vet right away for him! Please keep us updated. You are doing great considering the circumstances!

First I want to thank you all for safe vibes for Stargazer. I got him checked at the vet. The vet said the wounds were just superficial, not too deep and he gave me medicine for him to take through his mouth.

Speaking, I’ve realized how this fight began. Stargazer jumped out of the basket and then fell off my bed. Right there, it’s a miracle he didn’t break his back. Then, since he was in my rabbits territory she was startled and attacked him. Also a miracle he didn’t die of shock. The vet said the thing that would’ve killed him would’ve been shock, so it miraculous that he hadn’t gone into shock at all. I’m so happy he’ll be okay.

Stargazer is truly a miracle bunny.

Yay! So happy to read this, Bunlo! I’m guessing the vet gave you antibiotics so the wounds wont get infected. What an ordeal for you both. I hope you’ll both get a good night’s sleep tonight, you can probably use it. Heal up well now (((((Stargazer)))))

Great news for the little guy!! I’m sure you will be extra cautious now, but I just wanted to suggest that when you need to give the medication try taking him in the bathroom with the door closed so your other bun can’t get in. Buns can get squirmy when getting medication, so you don’t want him to accidentally end up on the floor again! So glad he’s ok

Today it was just a scab, the vet was checking to see if it was opened and it wasn’t. It really was a miracle. He is such a sweetheart that deserves a long healthy life. I’m so glad he’ll be okay.

It can be so scary when something happens and we can’t make it to a vet right away. It’s good the vet gave him antibiotics since things can fester and abscess rather easily in rabbits.
