I’m looking for a litter box setup that has a grid over the litter box so that poop and pee will drop through. Does anybody have any ideas? Anything besides an egg crate? I wanted to use a cooling rack over the litter box, but I’m not sure how it would fit.

For it to be comfortable for your rabbit, you’ll want the gaps small, so poop will not fall through. A grate big enough for poo to fall through may be uncomfortable for your rabbit’s feet, especially because rabbits will spend a lot of time eating in their litter boxes.

I use 7-count knitting mesh, cut to fit a high wall litter box. Urine drains through, and poop stays up. It is directly on the litter.

I don’t use a grate…I just use puppy pads under the litter to soak up the pee so the bum doesn’t get vet when my bun sits and ponders life….clean up is super easy too…just fold and toss.

Yes, the holes will need to be small so that it doesn’t hurt their feet! You should check out the binky bunny store, they sell litter screens there!

I’ve been looking at the screened litter boxes on the store, too. I was considering the “Lift ‘n Sift” type of cat litter box after I saw it recommended on another house-rabbit site, but BB’s version is cheaper (and looks better!) I’ll have to keep the puppy-pad idea in mind too if I end up not using a grated litterbox (or get a second litterbox for the play area).

I use the BB litter box screen and it’s been working great for the last 6 months
