My bunny is 9 weeks old and has a large belly. She stopped pooping last night. So it’s been over 24 hours at this point with no bunny marbles. We took her to the vet today and they gave her subQ saline. We are giving her water by syringe delivery. We started her on puréed papaya and have given her infant simethicone. Is there anything else anyone can suggest? At this point I’ve read about enemas and laxatives and gi motility drugs. She is tiny though only 1 pound and some of the postings I’ve seen say that that can cause a gi rupture. This is so stressful.

Didn’t the vet suggest further treatment?

Sub Q fluids are very good, but I think they ought to have done x-rays to figure out if there’s a blockage or if it’s “just” gas. Without an x-ray you can’t know if a motility drug would help or make matters much worse.

Pureed papaya has sugar and some fiber, so it could help perk the bun up. If there’s no blockage, she needs food. On the other hand, if there’s a blockage, food can be detrimental.

It’s important to keep her warm. Rabbits often get cold when they are poorly. They can get so cold from the insides that everything kind of grinds to a halt, and that’s really bad.

It would be really great if you could get her to move around a little. It helps the intestines move and it helps gas to come out. You can try and very very gently elevate her butt to help gas come out. But don’t press on the belly at all at this point.
