        Hey there!

I am currently at the emergency vet with my bunny Nami. Last week she started eating less and this happens occationally so I usually give her a tummy a massage and try to get her to pass some gas and get stuff moving. I also feed her some critical care. It worked hust like before and she started eating again.
Last night she stopped eating again and it got me really worried. I had felt a pretty hard mass in her lower abdomen so I took her in.
The vet said it might be intestinal blockage which then she would need surgery, and that its not an easy thing for a bunny to go through. Or it could be cancer.
Two things no owner wants to hear. She is adopted so im not 100% sure what her exact age is but i estimate she is around 7, which is older for a dwarf rabbit.

Im not sure what to do and im freaking out. The vet is currently taking xrays to see what part the hard spot is at and what it could be.
If it is a blockage and she would need surgery is that something i should consider putting her through?

Has she had any other previous surgeries other than spaying? If not she would likely recover fine but I will let you know right now that I am NO expert, I just have some experience and I try to offer help and support when I can. If someone else tells you otherwise you would likely do better sticking to their advice. For now I could probably only tell you to trust your vet and the health of your little bun. Hope you do okay! :/

So xrays say that she has a lot of hard masses in the caecum track and a lot of gas. Vet is going to give her pain meds fluid and hope that things start moving and breaking up. Bill came up to $1650 and she will be staying here for 48 hours. I asked what her chances are and it looks like 40% she’ll make it.
I feel terrible leaving her here knowing i have a 40% chance of seeing her again.
I have pet insurance through nationwide and i am hoping my heart out that they will cover most of the expenses cause if not i am going to have trouble with rent this month.

We have a member called Muchelle, whose bunny Kuro had surgery for a GI blockage earlier this year. He came thorough it fine, but he’s a lot younger than your bunny.

Hydration is key when there’s a blockage. Some vets recommend petromalt, but other vets don’t.

I hope your bunny makes it. (((((Nami)))))

Not sure if you’re religious, but I’m definitely praying for you and Nami!

So as of right now not much have changed. She has more gas and it doesnt look like she is breaking down the blockade fast enough. Vet said there is about 20% chance of her making it. We are trying everything there is, right now new meds are applied to force her gut to move, it might help or make things worse.

I am not sure what to do at this point, i dont want her to suffer.

I’m so sorry. I hope your vets can help you make the best decision for her.

I got 3 calls over night. First one around midnight, no changes.
Second one around 2am, the new xrays looks like she started to break things down finally but there is more gas.
Thirdly around 5am they called and said she is starting to go downhill and that I shoild make my way to the vet. Takes me about an hour to get there and they put her in my arms. She was so uncomfortable she kept jumping up or trying to relocate herself so she wasnt pushing on her tummy. She was on the best painkillers and she seemed so very tired.
I knew what had to be done. She fell asleep in my arms within the hour.
I feel like hell. I let her down. I loved her so much. But she is safe and not in pain anymore.

You didn’t let her down. You did all that could be done for her. And you were with her when she passed, she knew you were there for her.

I’m so very sorry you lost her.

Oh no Although I didn’t respond I had read your original post and came back to check for an update hoping it was good news. It’s so sad but you did all you could, so you mustn’t think you failed her. It’s nice that you were there for her when the time came, at least she had that comfort. Binky on little one xxx

Binky free little one, you’ll be missed.
You did all you could, and that’s what matters. She knew you loved her and you did a great job with her. She did live a great life, much better than if she’d never been taken in by you.
