I noticed today that the back of my rabbit’s ears look almost like he’s rubbing the fur off. It’s a bit pink. I looked inside his ear and nothing seems to be there. I first noticed a small scab on one but he often scratches himself when scratching so I thought nothing of it. Now there are two small scabs, little dots, on one ear. I have no idea what this is and he’s not acting differently, still as happy as can be. Can this just be from over grooming? Or is this potentially something he’ll need to go for the vet for? It doesn’t look alarming and I’d like to avoid a vet visit as it’s a bit of a drive and I don’t have my own car. It’s only popped up the last 2 days or so and it’s not very noticeable. He hasn’t lost fur anywhere else either. And like I said, the inside looks fine, it’s only some hair loss on the outside and 2 or 3 small small scabs.

I don’t know much about bunnies and I don’t have one of my own yet, but I think your bunny could be allergic to something your feeding or its hay if it doesn’t have parasites. Someone will have to confirm as I don’t know that much about bunnies.

Is the fur gone or does it just look thinned out? Is he flicking his ears a lot? It could be allergies or mites.

He doesn’t have a lot of fur there to begin with but it looks more thinned out I suppose. He hasn’t been flicking his ears more than usual I don’t believe but is that something I should look out for tonight?
              Thank you both for answering.

I would keep an eye out for any increases in: fur thinning/loss, ear scratching, head shaking, or scabs. If you start seeing more of any of those, or if his behavior/eating changes, then I would make a vet appointment.
