I noticed this morning that Lola had a small bump/scab above her nose but I figured it was just a skeeter bite and ignored it. I just checked on her again and she’s completely missing her fur and skin there now! I can see her pink flesh

Anyone have idea of what happened and what I can do? How long will this take to heal and will her fur grow back? Poor baby…

Is she grooming it at all? Or is there potentially anything in her environment that’s gone loose, or perhaps she went somewhere she usually doesn’t and became injured?

She isn’t grooming it since the bump came off but she was before so I’m pretty sure she ripped it off? There is nothing new in her kennel or her pen and when she was out she was supervised at all times. She does have this ball toy that has like little gaps in it like a plastic baby ball with another ball inside of it that jingles. It’s unlikely but I suppose she could have been playing with it and scraped herself?

Lola honestly doesn’t seem bothered in the least but I’m so concerned, she’s my first bunny and my baby.

You can rinse it with saline and put triple antibiotic ointment on it. But it’s important as Wick says to figure out if this is from her injuring herself on sth, or if it’s due to a mosquito bite or what. It doesn’t look too bad in the picture, but that could be just the picture.

You will have to observe it closely.

I looked over and don’t see what she could have hurt herself on but I removed the ball as that is the only thing I think it could have been if it’s not a mosquito bite. I’ll keep it clean with saline and make sure it doesn’t get worse. Does anyone have a guess on how long it will take to heal and if her fur will come back?

Is she housed with other rabbits?

How long it takes to heal depends on how deep it is. It looks very superficial to me, If the hair follicles are intact, the fur will grow back. My Bam had superficial wounds on his ears once (reaction to a vaccine most likely), they still took 2 weeks to heal.

No she isn’t with another rabbit so no naughty bites from a friend! Thanks Bam! It’s not deep at all and really just looks like when a scab comes off too early, I bet it stings her a bit though.
In other news she also figured out how to jump over her 40 inch tall pen so I had to put a cover on! Maybe she scraped her nose while attempting to jump over before? She’s only 2 and a half months old so I’m very surprised she can jump it! Should have seen my face when I found her on the couch!
