Hello everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve been on the forums.

Luna is now 3.5 months. She’s grown so much since I’ve picked her up at 7 weeks, and her fur is starting to change colors! She’s beautiful and I love her so much. Even my husband loves her (I knew that would happen haha)!

Enough of the bragging. I was just curious about a couple things. I know True Dwarfs can grow up to be 2.5 lbs, but I can’t find any info on False Dwarfs. How big do they typically grow? And since she is larger than a True Dwarf, can I take her to be fixed sooner than 6 months? Unfortunately I don’t own a scale, so I’m unsure of her current weight.

Here’s a photo of her now:

False dwarfs are usually a little smaller than their breed. However, even false dwarf Nethies stay really small. Shes much bigger than a Nethie, so I dont think shes a false Nethie or even a Nethie at all.

Some vets spay sooner than six months, but most wait till around six months. Breed doesnt seem to matter.

With the spaying procedure being more invasive than neutering, I would say have your vet make the call of when is a good time to spay your lovely rabbit. Some vets are very experienced, thus are comfortable spaying younger rabbits, smaller rabbits, and rabbits of light weight. Other vets may have a less extensive background, or just take more precautions for everyone’s sake based on experience and wait until a certain age, size, and/or weight. Depending on what your vet wants to do, I’d go by that.

If you do not feel comfortable with your vet spaying Luna, do not hesitate to look around for another exotic vet who could do the surgery instead. Wick’s vet has patients coming across state lines for rabbit surgeries because they are very experienced. It does not need to be a permanent change in vet.

She is a false Nethie, but I think she may be mixed as well, because the rescue farm I got her from had all sort of different breeds, so there’s definitely a chance she’s not full nethie. Thanks for the info! I’ll probably just wait until she’s 5 or 6 months just to be safe.

Thank you! I’m thinking I’ll get her a regular vet checkup at 5 months, then if the vet thinks she’s ready for a spay, I’ll get it scheduled. Maybe I’ll make a regular checkup ASAP because her nails really need trimmed, and I’m terrified to do it myself.

Hello Luna! I wouldnt worry or speculate about her being a false netherland dwarf. Netherland dwarf or not, she is a beautiful bunny! To me she looks like a rex.
I would schedule a vet visit soon, to discuss the spay. My vet didnt have an opening until a month after his regular check up. Hope all goes well for you!
