Sprocket does not seem to be able to master the bunny flop. he keeps over rotating onto his back or at times a full turn to the other side…so basically he is rolling around on his back then back to his stomach. and silly one keeps trying at least 3 times at a time before just stretching out on his tummy then turning to his side into the position the flop would give him.

so yesterday he sort of paused on his back and I turned him back to his side. was only a second or two. I have seen bunnies sleep on their backs before…BUT my QUESTION is…

can a bunny put themselves into that stasis on their back that humans do but should not put them in or if they do it themselves then it’s just comfy?

also … Spocket has only been eating Alfalfa hay with no greens and once or twice a week a bit of pellets as treats…he drinks a fair amount of water…being a hot summer and all and no water from greens can I assume that that is normal?

        Thanks!

I don’t know if they trance themselves when they lie down on their back, but I do know they can lie on their back voluntarily. There’s an example in the June Picture thread, where Bladesmith’s Clover is lying on her back. He said she stayed like that for at least 10 minutes. Scroll down to post nr 9 on page 1: https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/161018/Default.aspx

They drink more when it’s hot, and if they’re not eating greens, they drink a lot more. A bunny should drink about 50 ml water per pound body weight per day if it eats only pellets and hay. They can drink more if it’s warm.

oh okay…interesting on the lying on the back thing. I flipped him back just in case but next time i will watch him for a bit to see what he does.

glad to hear that about the water. he is still too young for greens.

There’s a funny clip on YouTube with someone putting a bunny back on all fours and the bunny keeps flopping into a shallow dip in the grass and getting stuck (can’t roll back over) and then they put back him right again and then he flops into the same hole – silly bunny !!!

yeah he tries to get comfy with the flops but then he will just lie on his stomach stretch out and flop to his side from his stomach….silly bunny. and I am still getting used to his dream squeeks/whimpers. Rookie didn’t really talk unless he growled to be left alone lol. Sprocket is a little chatter box. I hope he wont lose that quality when he gets neutered.

Wick’s notoriously bad at flopping. He can never do it right. I have a lot of small clips of it happening: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4m51FY6oip7c3M5eEpvVllSYUU/view?usp=sharing

… I’m glad he’s not the only bun who struggles, haha. I usually give him a few pets afterwards since he seems frazzled.

My Peanut is the floppiest bunny on the planet I swear and he often does a full roll onto his back! Sometimes he rolls into his toys and startles himself back upright lol other times he just chills on his back for a second or two. It’s perfectly safe
