I have had Bart and Milhouse since March and I have noticed over the last month they don’t seem to be as playful…or really at all. They were spayed and neutered a month ago, and I know that can have some impact on behavior but I don’t know to what extent. They are still happy bunnies but they only seem to get excited for food. Besides running around like crazy for their food, they just seem to want to lay under the couch. They have so many boxes to play with, paper rolls, chew/toss toys, material to dig at and in, etc. all things that they used to play with. They don’t even jump up on my couch anymore. But they still just want to lay under the couch. They aren’t scared or anything either, just seem uninterested. I feel like such a bad bun mom because I don’t remember the last time I saw a binky session

        Any thoughts? Ideas?

Is it particularly hot where you are?

Yes, it is about 80 to 90 degrees outside recently, but I have fans and a window air conditioning unit. Even when they AC is on, they are still just hanging out under the couch. But maybe since they spend a few hours in their room, and then come out into they AC, maybe they’re still tired from regulting their temp? Note: they have a high powered fan, shade in their room, ice cubes in water, tiles, and when needed a frozen water bottle. They aren’t just sitting in heat.

It sounds like you’re doing everything right to keep them comfy in the heat but it might still be contributing to the lounging. I’ve had a fan on all day and I’ve been pretty lazy today  If they are eating and drinking, pooping etc all normal and so long as they are just relaxing as opposed to being lethargic, it’s probably nothing to worry about but hopefully someone else will chime in!

Rabbits do tend to get less active in hot weather. It doesn’t even have to be very hot where they are. I think it’s an instinct. They aren’t very good at dealing with heat, in nature they tend to stay underground during the day when it’s hot out. Our rabbits can’t do that, but a couch or a bed is a good substitute to hang out under.

If they’re eating and everything else is normal, I’d not worry a lot. Just keep an eye. But then us bun parents always keep an eye
