Hi, I noticed a sore next to Tia’s mouth today, but my vet is closed for today. Is this something to be concerned about? She seems to be eating / drinking / pooping as normal, but maybe is a little less playful. It looks a bit like a cut, but it’s strange her fur around it has gone.

          Pretty bun!

Normally I’d say it would be fine to get her seen tomorrow. But I just want to clarify, is the wound like a hole? Or just a scab? I’m on my phone, so it’s a little difficult to see.

Thank you! She is new to our family; around 14 weeks old.

I’ve attached a closer image if it helps but will arrange a visit to the vets for today. The centre part looks like a scab to me, and that side of her mouth seems a little swollen.

Glad she’s getting seen. If it was an open wound, Id be concerned about flystrike – which would be a matter of urgency.
Hopefully the vet will be able to determine the cause of the sore. Have you had her for long? Perhaps she got a bite from another rabbit before she came to you?

Just to update you; the vet said it’s just a scrape and has prescribed some antibiotics.

We’ve had her now for almost 6 weeks, so definitely not caused by another rabbit. Vet thinks she has just caught it on something or maybe scratched herself. Either way it’s nothing to be concerned about thankfully

Yeah, it looks like a chunk was taken out by something sharp. I’m glad the vet gave you antibiotics. Stuff can develop into abscesses if not treated properly.

Thanks for the update. : ) I hope it heals up nicely.
Was she given baytril (enrofloxacin) ? That’s normally what they give..
