I have a 3-month bunny which is litterbox-trained and well-behaved. I decided to let him out of the cage for a few hours a day. Problem is when out, he seems so excited to play and run that he wont be back in the cage for eating and pooping for hours (I let the door open the whole time). I read that bunnies have to eat and poop constantly to keep their digest system going, so every hr I have to pick him up and put back in the cage to eat and poop.

The first time I noticed this, he hadnt eaten anything for almost 5 hrs. After putting back, he started eating and pooping like crazy, the poop shapes were really big , not rounded. After a few hrs things got back to normal.

What should I do to encourage him to eat and go bathroom while free-roaming? Anyone has the same problem?

Rabbits should eat, drink, toilet atleast once every 8 hours, so you dont have to put him back every hour. You should set up more food/water/litter stations for him around the room, though. Some buns needs 2 or 3 stations so they ‘remember’ to eat

They don’t need to eat every hour lol. Mine sometimes sleep from around 11 am and don’t start eating and pooping again until 5 pm! They do get up to pee though.

If you’re really concerned tho, just set up more food and litter stations

Also, at 3 months old he likely isn’t in full control of his pooping so if he needed to go whilst playing, he would!

Thank you so much for your help. I’m setting up new food stations for the bunny today 😀
