my rabbit victoria has an infection in her jaw. she went to the vet for a check up about a year ago and they discovered a minor lump on her mouth and they told me to check up on it often to make sure that pus doesnt come out. well i brought her to the vet two weeks ago because i could feel pus coming out. so she had an appointment trim her teeth. mind you, she barely ate hay when she was born and still doesnt. ive tried literally everything u could name. she eats a lot more now which is better and the vet said her teeth needs less trimming. anyways, they gave me antibiotics to give her twice a day for 14 days. i went to the vet yesterdat for a re check and they discovered a hole in her jaw. its a small hole but they said the infection spread to her bone and theres now a small hole in her jaw. they said there is very little they can do and they might resort to surgery if it gets very bad. im very concerned for her but will the infection still spread? is there anything i can do? also im new here

If it’s affecting bone, then yes, I would say surgery is 100% needed. They may need to put some antibiotic impregnanted beads in place.

Did the original abscess start at root of a tooth?
If so, it is best that tooth come out.

Yes, Im afraid it will. It is very difficult to get on top of once infection has gotten into bone. This is termed osteomylitis.
Is she still on antibiotics? I would very much continue with these and even do an injectable one plus an oral one. Are you having her boarded while you are away, or cared for at home?

ETA: You might like to read this story as it discusses the antibiotic beads. Note, every case is different so a vet may not necessarily choose this treatment. The article is old now, but the technique is still used.
