Hello, I have a female rabbit, about 6 1/2 years old. Yesterday morning when I woke up I noticed fresh drops of blood on the floor of my room, in her playpen, which I use as her cage. I checked all over her body and could not figure out where the blood had come from. After calling the vet, I was advised to put some paper towels down to see if she keeps bleeding / to try and locate the source. I noticed on one paper towel she sat on some poop got stuck to it, and some diluted pink blood was around that poop.

My rabbit has some issues cleaning herself, she is a little overweight (but has lost a lot in the past year), which causes poop to get stuck to her fur and stuck to my floor. I noticed the blood was in the spots where she normally sits/lies down. She is acting normally, drinking, eating, and pooping/peeing. Her pee looks normal (I have brown litter, so it is hard to tell the color). I haven’t taken her to the vet. I haven’t seen any blood since yesterday.

Should I take her as a precaution? I don’t have a ton of money to drop at the vet

Does anyone have any ideas regarding this situation?

First, I’d advise putting a paper towel over the litter so you can see her urine color. If it’s coming out wherever she’s sitting, it could be accompanying her poops on the way out, which is a problem.

I know Vet bills can be expensive, but maybe try getting a call in again and giving your vet an update, and asking what could be potential causes so you can look at more specific areas. In the end, you will probably need to go to the vet to have her examined.

If she isn’t spayed, the blood is likely from her reproductive tract. If she is spayed, my guess would be a urinary tract infection. Can you get a good look at her downstairs compartment to check for swelling around the anus? They can get hemorrhoids.

Thanks, for the suggestions. I put down a paper towel, and her pee was was… brown? Yellow-brown, but more brown. What does that mean?

Also, she is spayed! So I took a look at her anus and it doesn’t seem swollen.

No broken nails? If not, then I agree with Bam.
