        Hi
Does anyone have any suggestions what I can I put on my baby boy’s ears. My vet gave me some horrible ointment but it didn’t do anything. He has a bit of flakey skin on the outer part of his ears. I’ve tried organic coconut oil but that didn’t work it just stayed greasy for days. I need something non toxic please.
        Thanks in advance.

What was the name of the ointment your vet gave you? Did the vet give a diagnosis? Is the flakey skin from a type of mite? My boy has flaky ears too. From fur mites. I use grape seed oil on his ears every second day. Oil is oily – it does make the fur around he ears yellow and greasy. But his ears are a lot better. Not nearly as itchy, and the fur is growing back. Coconut oil is a thick oil – I’d try one of the light yellow oils like grape seed, almond, or apricot oil. Or sunflower, if the others cost too much where you live. Jus try a yellow instead of a white oil. But still – oil is oil is oily…

Hi thanks for the reply, I can’t remember the ointment name sorry. She done a thorough check on his ears to check for mites. She said he had a bit of a skin problem?. I’m changing his vets soon so if it doesn’t clear up I’ll get it checked again. He’s not lost his hair or anything it’s just flakey skin on his ears. I’ve got some rapeseed oil I’ll give that a try tonight. Thanks again

I’d be cautious of using rapeseed oil. Canola oil (derived from rapeseed) has 3-5% erucic acid. Rapeseed can have up to 54% erucic acid, which is toxic to the heart muscle. You might not want your rabbit cleaning his ears and ingesting this oil.

My little girl used to get dry, flaky ears (negative for mites) and I would just use a tiny dab of mineral oil and massage the area. Worked really well and bunny safe. You just need a tiny drop, though.
