I have recently rescued a rabbit who was set out at my place of employment. Right now he is housed in a smaller wire cage and allowed to roam several times a day while my dogs are outside. I’m looking for a bigger cage and was looking for thoughts on the Midwest Critter Nation double or single or the Ferret Nation which is somewhat cheaper.

For the critter nation you would definitely have to get the 2 level because looking at the picture (not knowing the dimensions) it looks small. And you would have to cover the wire bar platforms with something so it wouldn’t cause sore hocks.

I think there are better options then this cage like a dog x pen, of NIC grids connected together to make a cage. I have the biggest size or the living world deluxe habitat which is to small for a rabbit so I have attached an z pen to it.

Most cages sold for rabbits are really not big enough for them, unless you have a Dwarf rabbit or very small rabbit. An x-pen gives them more room, but since you have dogs, it could be dangerous for the rabbit to be in an open pen. They can sometimes jump or climb out and a dog could certainly jump in.

There are large and XL dog crates that would give a rabbit more room. The ones with 2 doors make it a lot easier to get the rabbit out if necessary or to clean the crate. Even with a roomier crate, a rabbit still needs adequate out of cage time each day.

If you were wanting to use a critter/ferret nation, you would need to attach two doubles together side-by-side with the end panels removed on the joined sides to get the length needed for a rabbit. The two levels is good, but without a ramp is best. It’s a lot of money though. At that point you are better off buying grids and assembling an NIC condo. They can be very sturdy if assembled right.

I’m guessing that a playpen set up would not work well for you due to your dogs and having to keep them separate?

That doesn’t look even remotely suitable for a rabbit. It’s tiny. If a rabbit is going to be confined for any period of time, it needs to be in an enclosure big enough for him to run, jump and binky.

Is anything used on the floor of the NIC condo? I only have one dog I’m still unsure about but he seems uninterested so far. My female dog just wants to be it’s mama. Right now I let the bunny free run in my bedroom with just a baby gate at my bedroom door. I liked the idea of the multiple levels since he is very adventurous.

My bun quickly learned that she could easily jump the baby gate, so watch out for that! NIC might be your best bet because it should be cheaper to do that than try to find a large enough indoor living area that won’t completely break the bank. I’m not sure what to use on the flooring because Ive never made one myself

Each floor of my NIC condo is plywood with linoleum stuck down on top. The bottom floor has a pine edging, the grids sit inside that edging and then are cable tied on to the pine through holes drilled in the wood.
