I have two lop ears who are just over a year old. They have a permanent outside run of about 20 feet by 8 feet (ish). Their hutch is in the middle of this permanently open so they come and go as they please 24 hours a day.

I’ve never tried to toilet train them (i figured this wasn’t so important for outdoor rabbits). They do go mostly in one place, unless it’s raining then they go in their bed a lot.

I’m thinking of getting something like this which would be outside. Do you think this might encourage them to go in one place or is it too late? And should I make sure it’s sheltered?

i think it’s still totally possible to toilet train them. i got my rabbit Sienna when i think she was 8 months old or so. she was only slightly toilet trained, and for a while after i brought her home she didn’t always go in her box. ever since i’ve started cleaning up poop and pee ASAP and gently pushing her until she went in while she was eating hay, she’s started going in there a lot more often.
i haven’t kept a rabbit outdoors before, but i’d probably shelter the box to prevent it from getting extra wet and causing them to avoid using it. i don’t know how your rabbits are and how they’d react to something like that, but it’s probably best to keep it as dry as you can.

I toiled trained two undesexed female rabbits at the age of 9. It’s possible. I would suggest putting a covered litter tray (or perhaps a shelter over an open one so they don’t feel trapped) in the area they already go in regularly.
