I am not a rabbit owner, but my roommate is. The upper part of the hutch is cleaned daily, but it’s been a couple weeks and I haven’t seen the bottom (which sits on carpet) cleaned in a couple weeks and it smells. Decided I might clean it myself and then the obsessed animal mommy in me immediately started checking feet for sores/fungus. One hock looks like maybe…but it could also just be dirty. Looking for advice on this. Sorry the pics are pretty much unhelpful, but maybe you guys have seen the earlier stages of a foot problem and can give me some hints as to what I need to keep an eye out for (I have googled so I understand the basics). Thanks!

I see nothing but fur so it looks alright to me. It does almost look like there may be a little gap in the fur at one point, and if you part the fur there I don’t know if you’ll see bare skin or not. Some rabbits do naturally have a tiny bare patch in that area, but the skin should be pale and pink and look healthy. The skin on hocksores can be red, inflammed, flaky, scabby, bleeding etc. So it looks alright to me While bunnies can certainly get sores from sitting in a bit too much waste (urine scald), most hocksores come from wire flooring and hard surfaces.

Thanks for looking out for this little bunny.
