My rabbit refuses to eat the Oxbow Adult Rabbit Food. I’ve been following the instructions to taper off the Young Rabbit Food and it’s almost all Adult. He still loves the Young ones but picks through and avoids the Adult ones. I don’t know what to do I’ve already tried putting them together in a container to get the Adult ones to smell more like the Young ones and I can’t think of anything else to do. He still eats tons of hay and veggies but for some reason just hates the Adult pellets. Any suggestions?

Were the young pellets alfalfa? I’m not sure if that’s standard for all young pellets, but pretty sure most adult pellets are Timothy hay. My rabbit is pretty picky and she didn’t like oxbow brand anything, so I started buying from Small Pet Select and she gobbles up everything! Switching from alfalfa to Timothy is definitely a struggle…my bun absolutely refused to eat Timothy hay for a while when we were transitioning. Just stick with it, bun will come around just keep reducing the amount of young pellets. Do make sure bun is still getting all nutritional needs though. Since my bun refused the Timothy hay I had to keep giving alfalfa because the alternative was stasis from not eating, and I didn’t want that! Good luck!

I agree with what BunNoob writes. The junior pellets are richer in both protein and calcium, that makes them more yummy. But healthy adult buns shouldn’t have rich food with extra calcium (there are exceptions when a bun is pregnant, lactating or old/poorly so it has difficulty keeping weight on), so you can’t let the bun decide. Keep persisting. Keep mixing the junior with the adult, you can do this transition very slowly if you like.

I’ll keep trying but I know that pellets aren’t very important for adult rabbits and many people choose not to even feed them. So it’s not that big of a deal if it takes a while for him to get used to them.
