I adopted this old man last night. I don’t know much about him. They said his name was Ziggy (not sure he knows it) and that he was 7. I know he is a male, because he is not fixed  . I have done some research, but I can not figure out what breed he is. He is gray and white and has blue eyes. He is probably around 6 or more pounds. Hopefully the pictures show his ears well enough. I know his hair needs brushed and he looks a little dirty, but I am trying to build a little bit of a relationship before I start picking at him lol. He seems really friendly, however, I question if he is trying to mate . Anyway, I’m excited about providing a good life for him the rest of his years, and of course having a new family member!

Welcome! He is so darling! I’m not sure what breed he is either, probably a mix of some sort.

How did you come to adopt Ziggy?

Well I went to petco, not looking for a rabbit lol, and there he was. Sitting at the front of the store waiting to be adopted. They said his last owners just didn’t have time anymore and were hoping someone else did.

I recently lost my other rabbit after 11 years. I had planned on waiting for a little bit, but I felt like he was the one.

Hi there and welcome to the forum

Ziggy is just gorgeous, his colour pattern is called Vienna marked, with his colour probably blue. As for breed, it’s anyone’s guess. He looks a mix of maybe a bit of dwarf and who knows what else. The vienna colour pattern comes in many breeds and mixed breeds.

Regarding the mounting, rabbits mount/hump for both dominance and mating reasons. Being un-nuetered, he may be quite amorous Some un-nuetered males can be that way, if they need an outlet, providing a plush toy for him to mount can ease some of the frustration that comes from not being able to mate. You could look at getting him neutered if it was something that you were interested in, but at 7 years of age there is likely some extra risks associated with the surgery.

Welcome! He is a lovely one. I don’t know if I could have resisted either! So great that you adopted an older rabbit.
Im sorry for your recent loss. Please share with us about your other senior bun too. 11 is a great age to reach.

Long term intact bucks tend not to be overly hormonal (in general) but his change in circumstance would be enough to trigger some behaviours I would think. If he is a bit humpy, hopefully it will lessen as he becomes settled in his new home.

He is so beautiful! Thank you for not doing the usual and making a beeline for the teacup sized baby bunnies
It will be so lovely for him to spend his golden years with you
