I’ve seen that a lot of people give their rabbits wood chews from their own trees rather than store bought which I also prefer. I have three apple trees with no chemicals or anything used on them and our neighbors don’t use any pesticides either. My question is if apple twigs can be given fresh or if they have to be dried out? Should they be rinsed? Lastly, do I remove the leaves or are those safe for my future bunny?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance!

I give my bun apple twigs from my apple trees I give them a scrub with water to take off any possible animal residue. I usually pluck out the ones that have already dried, but if I grab any fresh one I let it dry throughly before giving it to the bun

I have fruit trees. What I do is I take the clippings from the tree and cut them into decent sized rods. Then I use a needle and fishing line to string them up and let them dry. I prefer to give them dried because it does more for their teeth than the fresh ones in my opinion.

I give fresh twigs all year round. They’re most appreciated during the cold season, when nothing else grows here. Bam is extremely efficient when it comes to gnawing off every trace of bark.

This time of year he doesn’t bother so much with the bark, probably due to an over-abundance of fresh forage. He eats the leaves.

I rinse the twigs in water before giving them to him, and I serve them wet. This is a cold country, I imagine there are more nasty bugs and stuff in warmer climates. I only cut nice-looking twigs, with smooth bark and leaves with no visible damage from aphids or funghi or whatnot.
