Hi I got my bunny, Lola, spayed last week and she’s been acting differently now. I heard spaying them makes their behaviors changed for the better but lately shes been growling at me and bumping me with her head. She loves laying under my bed and has been very territorial and will growl and run at me when I try to pet her when she’s underneath there. Just now she did that to me in her cage (I never close the gate and let her hop in and out when she wants). She’s never done this to me before she’s been spayed, she was always cuddly and licking me. I do run a dog boarding business however, and have had to take take care of a few dogs this past week so Im hoping this is just her being angry about not getting as much attention? But I dont know. Any thoughts on this are appreciated.

Lola may be experiencing a post spay craze. When hormone levels start fluctuating after a spay or neuter, it can cause behavioral problems in rabbits. When the hormones have leveled out, which could take a month or a little longer, she should be back to normal.

Have you checked her incision site or gone back to the vet for a check? Pain, or a problem with healing or infection, could also cause the behavior she is exhibiting. If she is healing just fine, then the reason for her change is likely the hormone imbalance.

Thank you! I just checked the incision, its almost fully healed and completely fine. Im still probably going to but a hold on the dog boarding because I want to try to keep bonding with her during this tough time
