I am moving into a new home and am unsure of where the best place for my bunny is. She is about 6 months and is a healthy happy adorable baby. In her current home she lives in my room in a house with 4 large and loud dogs. She rarely even notices the barking anymore. In the new home there will be no other animals but there are other concerns. The first place she can go is downstairs. There it is tile, and would be perfect except that is where the bar and game room is. It would get noisy and full of people 1-2 times a week, but I would be able to give her free range of space when I’m home (she is not a big chewer/digger). The other option is the spare bedroom. It has hardwood, and is smaller. My boyfriend has concerns of letting her out of her home and onto the hardwood because of damange. He is afraid it will scratch the new floors up. Has anyone experienced that with wood floors? What do you think the better option is?

The spare room sounds better to me in some ways because tile also tends to be uncomfortably slippery for buns and they just slide around

If you have extra money you could put vinyl tiles maybe over the hard wood flooring to protect it, because the extra noise on the game room nights might bug her.

I’m not sure about scratching up the floors but I do know that if she ever makes an accident on hardwood it could ruin the floor since its not perfectly water proof

But if that’s not an option I guess down stairs with lots of matts and carpets and such for her to feel more comfortable om the tile flooring

And since she’s already used to dogs the whole game room bar thing would probably not bug her too much

Plus free range if the area would make her much happier

So I guess it depends on how you want to change the floor since the tiles downstairs sound like they could be slippery

I think either hardwood or tile would be too slippy for a bunny, so either way you would want to put down a few carpets or mats for her to rest on! We have hardwood floors in our apartment and our bunny has never done any damage to them, despite trying to dig on them a few times. I think her nails are too short and not hard enough to do any damage. So if you keep nails trimmed, damage to floors should be minimal.

I would lean towards keeping her in the bar/game room so that she could get more human interaction. You could always try this out and then move her to the spare bedroom if she seems overly stressed. Only thing I would recommend is to make sure she has a hiding place that is all her own in the room so she can get away from a crowd if she wants. Like a cardboard or wooden box with 2 exits cut into it

I think the spare room is ideal. Maybe put a big rug or several small rugs to give traction. My living room is where the buns come out for play and it is hardwood with a big area rug in the middle. Never noticed any bun-nail damage to floors.
