Hi guys, since stopping the buns pellets and veggies just over a month-ish ago, I planned to weigh them both weekly to ensure they didn’t lose weight. Unfortunately picking them up to do this was not gunna happen and I wasn’t able to fully lure them onto the scales accurately to get a good reading. I was then in hospital for two weeks and my bf was unable to weigh them also. They’ve been to the vet today for a weigh in (apparently it’s easier getting them into their carrier than it is getting them on a set of scales?! I had to go to the vet to pick up their worming medicine anyway) Anyway, just before stopping pellets Buttercup weighed 2.18kg. She now weighs 2.28kg  Peanut unfortunately wasn’t weighed prior to stopping the pellets. His most recent weigh in before today was back in February at their routine wellness check,  he was 1.76kg (Buttercup was 2 kg back then) Today he weighs 1.94kg. I’m unsure whether he may have been a bit heavier and has since lost it after stopping pellets. My plan is to weigh them both weekly (at the vets) at least for a few weeks to check his weight is stable.

I’m a bit worried tho, does be seem a bit. ..small? He’s always been smaller than Buttercup, always. And according to my calculations, since February Buttercup has put on 0.28kg and Peanut has put on 0.22kg. So they’ve put on roughly the same. I’m just a little paranoid that he’s unhealthily small. He is just generally smaller built but can anyone put my mind at ease? Obviously if he weighs less next week I will need to investigate.

In my understanding (not an expert) rabbits vary in size like humans, we are all different sizes! I think that as long as his weight remains consistent, and he has good body condition, you have nothing to worry about. He may end up being a bit smaller than his sister, but 1.94kg falls into a good weight range for a mini lop.

It is great they are gaining weight on an only hay diet!

I think I’m just a bit paranoid as he looks quite slim but when I compare him to rabbit body charts, he seems to fall between ideal and thin depending on his body pose lol. I can’t feel sharp bones or anything – I can feel his spine but it’s definitely got a ‘covering’ and his ribs seem to have ‘more of a covering’ so i think he feels okay. Compared to Buttercup he is just so teeny  She has a big bottom

Just cos they are siblings doesn’t mean they have to be the same size. Silky and Grace, our bridge piggies were sisters, Grace was always way bigger at the rear than her streamline sister.

I suppose that’s true, I myself am much smaller than my brothers  Gorgeous piggies

I find it really hard to weigh Tony too, and I’m constantly worried because he’s so damn furry it’s impossible to see what he looks like under it all, but the spine seems to me to be a good indicator. If you can feel it but it’s not sharp or pointy, I think you’re fine. And yes, siblings can vary wildly in size! I’m half a foot taller than either of my sisters! As long as he’s eating and running around happily, I wouldn’t stress too much. X

                    Just a little update!

Buttercup now weighs 2.35kg so she’s put on a little. Peanut on the other hand is down from 1.94 to 1.91kg. The vet nurse said it’s not concerning but to keep an eye on it so I’ll be taking them back in three weeks for another weigh in. What do you guys think? She felt his body and said he has a nice fat covering and good muscle mass so I’m pleased with that, I just hope he doesn’t continue to lose weight. Any input would be much appreciated

The fur can be deceiving can’t it! He’s definitely an active little boy  He’s currently a bit over excited so I assume he’ll go and annoy Buttercup soon

How old is Peanut now? If he is full grown it is probably not too concerning, although good to keep an eye on so you know if he drops more! Thor can vary a bit in weight depending on what time of day it is, she weighs a lot more right after evening salad

He’s 10 and a half months so fully grown I assume. Buttercup’s the same age tho and is still gaining which is a little perplexing

The vet nurse said perhaps he’d done a big poop this morning  I’m sure it’s just natural fluctuations but I’ll definitely keep a close eye.
