Hi there! New rabbit owner here. My bunny Holly is finally a bit adjusted to here new home here. I take her out from her pen and she appears scared at first but then she gets comfortable and starts to binky around. But when she’s idle I notice her ears tremble a bit… I’ve read around forums saying it could
Be mites but she doesn’t scratch a lot? She shakes kinda here and there her head. But other than that I don’t know what just having shaky ears mean. I have a video on Snapchat but I’m new so I’m trying to figure out how to upload in a moment. Thanks!

Tou can upload a video to imgur or Flickr or Google Drive, then paste the link to the movie into your post.

Trembling ears doesn’t really ring a bell with me, but if a bunny is shaking its ears often, it could be mites or possibly an ear infection. Have you had a peek inside her ears? Does the skin inside the ears look healthy and smooth, no goo, vrustiness or dandruff?

Hi thanks for responding! I don’t think she fully trusts me enough to do so but I’ll try when I get home. Here’s the video. Side note also don’t be alarmed by the cat kinda in the corner I know for a fact they both get along well. Holly tries to groom her Lol https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-Kp-c-jM55sWFJwczRLUVFBNzA

My nervous bun does that too. I always assumed it was because he’s anxious. I’ve only had him a month today, but he has taken a while to adjust and anything out of the ordinary tends to spook him.

My bunny Yohio could tremble all over, ears included, when he was breathing quickly, sometimes after he’d been running around, but sometimes for “no reason”. It’s not alarming and not a sign of mites. It’s not a sign of anything being wrong actually, we get videos here of buns laying down and trembling now and then, it seems like it’s just something many buns do.

A bun will shake its head (incl ears) sometimes. They will also clean their ears really thoroughly, they sit on their hind legs and pull down one ear at a time and sort of nibble at them. That’s probably one of the cutest things in the world.

My rabbits do that when they are feeling too hot.. Maybe if it’s really warm where you are you could set up a fan or tile cooling place or something for her to cool off on?

Besides that though I agree that it could be just anxiety or breathing quickly after running around

Oooh that makes sense. Just yesterday after lettiting her out her ears felt hot when I tried looking for mites. She had also been running around like crazy cause she was happy. I live in California it’s like going to the 90’s ATM. I’ll keep trying to find way to cool her down but for now I’m her pen I just put a frozen water bottle. Thanks

Frozen water bottle is really good for heat!

Remember though, rabbits can’t sweat so they do need help staying cool in hot temperatures!

You can also put ice cubes in her drinking water. Rabbits are not at all good at keeping their body temp down in hot weather, so they definitely need help with that.
