My bunny Sammy is almost 6 months, and was neutered 2 weeks ago Wendsday . So my question is, he looks good, is acting himself and seems attached to Delilah, my spayed three/four year old rabbit. So do I have to wait the full two weeks? Is that even enough? Tysm!

Youll want to wait one full month, to be safe The recommended is one month to two months as within this time your newly neutered bun is likely to go through a hormonal craze where he will act hormonally for a few hours to a few days. By the one month mark you should be safe for this not to happen, by the two month mark you are surely safe. Dont do it at two weeks, wait atleast one full month

Hi! Thanks for getting back. May I ask where you found this information? Sorry! But I’ve read a few posts from Binkey Bunny and others online saying two weeks. Of course, it’s good to be safe, meaning I agree with you. Guess I’m just searching for more info. Tysm again!

Forums and vet advice Males can take up to 2 months to drain their hormones and females can take up to six months. Most of the time, though, rabbits drain their hormones within the first month. Its always good to wait a bit, or test the waters, before diving right into trying to bond when the newly neutered/spayed bun seems ready

I really think it is safer to wait. If you try now and it doesn’t work, the buns could develop a profound mistrust of each other, and that could actually ruin the whole thing. I only waited 2 weeks with my second bun, and the bonding attemps were a disaster. It might of course have been a distaster anyway, but if I was going to try another bonding, I’d definitely wait the full month. Even if its super boring to wait!

Have you been switching litterboxes and toys between them?

Sorry to tag onto this post but it seems I am in a similar position. My male/female 3 and 4 month old bunnies were bonded perfectly but male started trying to hump female so we got him castrated. They have now been apart for 2 1/2 weeks and i just put them together for a second and all hell broke loose! The female was alway the dominant one but today the male fought back and the fur went flying! Too soon? I’m going away at the end of next week and wanted to put them back together again. Should i keep them separate until we come back or try again next week? They are next to each other in cages/lose at night and share toys and litterboxes. Thanks!

You cannot just put rabbits together like that, you have to go through the bonding process. The first step is getting them both spayed and neutered – prior to this, they cannot be classified as bonded because hormones cone into play and change things.

Is your female spayed? Males can still impregnate females upto a month after being neutered.
