So we just had a freak accident in the kitchen in which some diluted cranberry juice spilled onto Thor… She got a bit damp, and I wiped her down with a wet paper cloth. However, I’m worried she may have drunk some of the juice and there may be residue on her fur. The thing is, this was a diet cranberry juice so I’m sure it contains artificial sweeteners. Does anyone know if these are toxic to rabbits? It would be a small quantity she could ingest, but I’m still worried…

It depends on type of sweetener. Xylitol is toxic, but nobody in their right mind would sweeten cranberry juice with xylitol. It’s mostly used in chewing gum.

Saccharine sodium is the sweetener in Infacol. So many of our buns here have had that.

Aspartame (sucralose) can hurt the liver and blood clotting capacity of rabbits if given in significant doses over a 2 month period.
TLDR: In a small, one time dose, it’s unlikely your bun will suffer any ill effects.

Thanks! I checked the ingredients, and it was sucralose so I won’t worry. She seems totally fine, a bit miffed and sticky but otherwise fine
