My bun didn’t really eat or drink Thursday night and Friday. This morning I was able to get him to eat some hay and a pinch of oatmeal. I gave him a dish of water which he drank some. Now he pooped, but it was all clumped together, and since then he has really tiny poops that are strung together by fur. Rabbit savvy vets are closed until Monday. I don’t know what to do. Please help! I don’t want to lose my fur baby.

It is good he is pooping and drinking and eating some on his own. If he is eating on his own a little you can try some alfalfa. If not and you do not have critical care you can try force feeding canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) but pure 100% pumpkin no spices. You should be able to get it at a grocery store You can probably get a feeding syringe at a pet store. I am not sure the dosage you can google it.

The important thing is fluids and keeping his gut going.

I hope someone who know more then me stops by.

            Great advice ^.
Fluid is important. Will he eat some wet greens? Herbs?
The poops often will look odd after a gut slow-down. The fact that he is eating some and pooping is great! How is he doing now?

He is doing good. He won’t eat the greens I put out for him. He is not a big vegetable eater. He doesn’t care for lettuce, carrots, parsley, and kale. I think those are the only ones I have tried. He sniffs them and then pushes them out of his way. He did eat a lot of hay last night. I have him tons of hay and it is almost all gone. His poops are back to normal as well. I think he had fur in his intestines because a lot of the poops we’re strung together. Once he got rid of those, everything seems to be returning to normal. I will keep watching him closely to make sure he continues to eat and get better. His pellets are not interesting him yet, but I’m glad he is eating lots of hay.

I’m so glad to hear it! Take care to brush him every day if he’s in a molt, you might of course be doing that already. To catch loose hair after a good brushing you can use a lint-roller or run your own wet hands over his fur.

I do groom him. The sticky lint rollers work good. He doesn’t mind when I use them on him. He just lays there. He was molting about a month ago. So much fur everywhere.

My Bam is in his second big molt of this spring/summer, and the amount of fur is staggering! They will of course ingest some hair no matter how carefully you groom them. The best thing for a gut slowdown is hay and fluids, your bun seems to have figured this out and that’s really great.

My bun seems to hate the lintroller way less than he hates the brush.

I am glad he is doing better.

Fur will do that, my lionhead needs to get a hair trims every couple of months to prevent stasis.

My lop George goes through really bad sheds too. Maybe ask you vet about laxatone (some vets like it others do not all the vets around me recommend it), or a motility drug when he shedding . The later work for George, laxatone gives George runny cecotropes.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. He is almost back to his normal bunny self.

You don’t mind if I commandeer your pillow, do you mommy?

That’s great! Hay and water are the best things to get extra fur out his system. It’s normal for them to snub pellets when having a gut slowdown.

                          Hello Finn! Handsome boy.
