Hello everyone. My bunny Daisy has been so bad lately
She loves going under my bed but I have it blocked out so she can’t get under because I don’t want her under there where I can’t see her. She has a little pet store cage, but I only have that for her litter box and water, food, etc. She free ranges in my room. So lately since she can’t get under my bed she’s been trying to dig a hole underneath the bars to get in. But obviously that won’t work because it’s carpet. So I come in my room today and there she is digging my carpet, and my carpet is gone I was furious! So I locked her in her cage. I don’t know what to do? I can’t keep her in her cage forever, but I can’t have dig my carpet to where there isn’t any carpet left. And I’m not setting up an x pen. What do I do? Any help would be much appreciated. I’m so angry at her right now

Bunnies dig, it’s in their nature. You’ll have to cover the carpet. She’s not being bad, she’s being a bunny…Don’t lock her in a tiny cage to punish her. Ever. And don’t punish her for being a rabbit.

You could put mats or blankets down, or cardboard.

I have heavy ceramic and stone tiles I put down on my carpets! They are fairly cheap at hardware stores and much too heavy for a rabbit to move. You can just put them down in the spots that she digs.

You also need to provide some places she IS allowed to dig. You can try: a digging box for her (a cardboard box with shredded newspaper works in a pinch), cardboard cat scratchers (my bun loves to “dig” in these), seagrass or timothy mats, or just layered pieces pieces of cardboard overlapping the tiles.

I agree that heavy ceramic tiles are the way to go, but also provide places for her to exercise her instinct to dig, or she will just move to a new area.

Ceramic tiles are a great idea, I’ll keep that in mind myself! Buttercup has a sudden interest in carpet :-/
