should I be insulted??

so hello everyone, my name is Audrey! I just adopted two buns, Stevie and Blanche, this past month and I have been having a few issues now that they are a little settled in. Blanche is very curious and seems to enjoy exploring so I keep my room as bunny proof as possible and let them free roam since my room is so small and I can’t really give them an adequate cage in here. ( I have a small balcony in my room that I’ve bun proofed that I let out on 24/7, but I kept them outside last night after Blanche had an accident, which I felt bad for doing to Stevie but I knew she wouldn’t prefer to stay inside with me).

Of course now Blanche has decided to start peeing and pooping on my bed. I’ve caught her twice doing it and there have been two other incidences I missed because I accidentally fell asleep while they were still roaming my room. One was right next to my head and I’m wondering if that was supposed to be a direct insult? The other three times have been at the end of the bed which is right next to their makeshift indoor cage where their food and litter is. I’ve been clapping loud and saying “no” when she does, but she’s getting real grumpy with me about that and thumping at me pretty much anytime I’m around now. They’re both scheduled to be spayed next month, but I’m hoping there is something to do in the meantime to stop this without making Blanche hate me??

A bunny pooping and peeing near you or even on you is the opposite of an insult. She wants to mark the best spots on your soft and plushy bed, and the best spots are those that smell the strongest of you.

Peeing on a counterpart is part of the bunny courtship-ritual. It’s basically a declaration of love.

The best thing is to block her from accessing your bed until she’s been spayed and has healed and her hormones have died down. A spayed bunny might still want to pee and poop on a bed though, but they frequency can drop or it might even go away.

The grumpyness + the marking makes me think she’s hit puberty. She’ll be less temperamental after her spay, but right now she’s like a young, stubborn teen. She can’t help it, and there’s not a lot to be done about it except spaying + time.
