My nethie, Zeus, just turned 4 months. Today i noticed a visible bald spot on his head, (it looks like he has a bald eyebrow lol). Well during the day i picked a little of his fur but he ran away.
Tonight he laid down and let me pick at his head and between his ears a bit.
I was wondering if its possible to be pulling his fur too hard, if it hurts. If it did hurt, is it possible he would be in shock and lay there letting me do so?

Also, is the shedding all over the body? can i pull fur from his body if he has started shedding on his head or is it gradual?
Im so nervous! He is my first bunny so i dont want to pull too hard, he wont let me get near with a brush.
Do rabbits know when they are shedding? & if they are aware of the shedding, do they prefer help or to do it alone?

Any tips on how to help him get it all off when its time? Pulling his fur by hand isnt very effective lol

okay so, if a bunny is scared he would be in a “ball” which is on all fours but kind of smooshed up. he would also have whale eyes. If he doesn’t then i think you aren’t pulling too hard. the hair should come off relatively easy with a light pull.
I would suggest brushing him as ingesting too much fur could cause health problems. If he doesn’t like being handled I would suggest putting him on a table or in a crate where you can brush him and he won’t be moving around a lot.
My netherland in my profile picture always ends up with this unibrow on his face when he’s molting. honestly each bun is different when it comes to hair loss.

I think he’d hop away if he didn’t like the hair-pulling. At least he’d twitch and in other ways show discomfort.

As Cinnabun says, all rabbits molt differently. Plus many rabbits tend to have different types of molts from time to time. My Bam sometimes shed in clumps leaving bald spots, sometimes it’s a continous shed. I pick out his hair tuft by tuft, because that method suits his type of rather tangly hair. My other bun who had smoother hair I used to brush with a self cleaning slicker, then finish off by lint-rolling him. Some people finish grooming sessions by running their wet hands over the bun to pick up loose hairs.

Rabbits can become grumpy when they shed. They can also get bouts of gas. It’s like they are a little bit more vulnerable when they molt. I don’t know if they know they’re molting, but it is always good to help them. The risk is otherwise that the bun ingests too much hair when grooming himself, and that can cause serious intestinal blockages.
