One of my rabbits likes to dig up her litter from the litter box. When she does this she makes a complete mess. Since she digs up so much litter she now decides to pee wherever she wants . My other rabbit likes when things are clean and he gets very frustrated when she makes the mess. I don’t know what will fix this I have tried litter screens but she digs those up also, and still pees everywhere. Please help ASAP! Thanks!

The only thing I can think of is switching the litter? Maybe just do half new litter type and half old used stuff at first though so they understand what it is

There is the paper bedding like yesterday’s news paper or care fresh, or wood pellets.

But remember to stay away from clay, wood chips or shaving, other clumping litters or most other cat litters since they can be dangerous!

But switching litter would probably help

And maybe if she likes digging so much you could make a dig box for them? Might satisfy her dig habits without d.ruining the litterbox

Basically a big cardboard box (or other container with side door cut in)

And fill it with tissue for her to dig through or paper shredding, you can even add some hay or pellets in for them to forage through the paper.

Some people like using dirt but that’s too messy in my opinion

I recently dealt with this issue, my bun is determined to dig through her litterbox, into the floor and keep going

For me, litter screen worked wonders, but she then figured out how to lift it out of the box and continue digging. Is this what happened to you? What I did is glue 2 small pieces of wood to the back corners of the litterbox right above where the screen should sit. This way, I can slot the screen in and out for cleaning but she can’t lift it out by digging or grabbing it from outside. It’s worked well so far! If you want I can post a picture later.

If she actually dug THROUGH the screen perhaps you should try a more sturdy one? Such as a metal screen?

Other ideas, it is certainly a good idea to try changing the litter! Perhaps she just really hates the smell. When I changed hay to a new kind that Thor likes better that also helped with litterbox digging, since she was distracted and eating most of the time.

Good luck! I know this is super frustrating.
