My baby Miguelita won’t eat pellets and never has since I brought her home from the pet store. I know I shouldn’t have bought her from a store, but I went in to play with the puppies and when I seen her and how lovinging she was. I couldn’t help it. Anyway, since I brought her home she won’t eat any pellets. I’ve tried 3 different brands. I even called the store and asked which ones they fed them and she won’t touch them either. She probably never ate them and she was kept which other bunnies so they wouldn’t notice if she did or not. She only eats the little extra things like granola that come in the pellets. She eats her hay and veggies with no problem and she’s very cuddly and always does binkies and flops on her side to relax and using her potty normal. So I don’t think she’s not eating from stress. I recently bought a hamster mix for her since its mostly made up from granola. I took the corn and sunflower seeds out of it though. I have an appointment to get checked on the 21st. I was hoping to only use the hamster food to hold her over until then, but I’m scared of her getting sick from them. I’ve read multiple stories of bunny not eating pellets, but none were quite the same as my story. Please some advice??

Not all rabbits have to have pellets for example 101rabbits the youtuber does not feed her rabbits pellets and and they do perfectly fine. As long as she has veggies, hay and water she should be fine!

Hi there Not eating pellets for a few days won’t cause too much harm. Adding granola and muesli style mixes to her diet is likely to cause more harm than good and may lead to soft poops or even diarrhoea. It’s better that she’s just eating her hay for the time being, give her just a plain pellet (a small amount fresh eat day, even try hand feeding them as treats a few times and day) and she will learn to like it. Sometimes bunnies just refuse to try things but then when they do they learn that they like them.

While bucky&bailey is correct that rabbits don’t need pellets to be healthy, for a young growing rabbit that likely hasn’t been transitioned onto eating a wide variety of healthy greens yet, I do feel at least some pellets are important to help maintain healthy growth.

Long story short, stop feeding granola/muesli/hamster mix. She will be fine on just hay and water until she learns to like his plain pellets.
