        Good morning,

This is my first post after weeks browsing this amazing forum for information on how to care for rabbits.

My bunny’s name is Corrin and she just turned 2 months old. She’s been eating pellets and hay consistently (oxbow young rabbits, oxbow alfalfa mixed with timothy), drinking water consistently since we brought her home. She gets a thin slice of apple every morning and one leaf of bok choy.  She’s been eating this since we got her (the owners that sold her to us used to give her carrot peels and bulk pellets ONLY).  Her poops looked very normal until about 2 days ago. I was playing with her when I noticed two teeny tiny poops stuck to her bottom. I thought they were just the odd ones out of a batch of healthy looking poop that she had just put in her litter tray. I continued to monitor her behaviour and eating habits but keeping a closer eye on her litter. Yesterday I found 2 tiny poops again and this morning I noticed 3-4 of them mixed in, again, with a healthy batch of poop in her litter.

The weather has been getting hot here and she’s been shedding A BIT, we do brush her but at the same time she’s not molting crazily like I’ve seen/read about. Could this be enough to cause a small blockage? Should I be worried about it?

          Hi and Welcome

Are they regular poops or cecals? Check out the Guide to Bunny Poop Thread posted at the top of the DIET & CARE Forum.

They’re definitely not cecals, they’re very dry and hard. I read the imgur that you posted and I think it could be stress related? The aircon in my apartment is kind of loud and her hutch is fairly close to it. I found 2-3 tiny ones again today mixed with her normal looking poops.

Okay, I know what you are referring to as this happens to my lop sometimes. Try to get her to eat more hay. That might help. As well as making sure to offer the right amount of veggies, which you should feed wet. Sometimes shedding can cause buns to have smaller poops.

You should also offer water in a bowl or crock, if you aren’t already, to encourage her to drink more water. I would probably cut out the apple for now as well, just to make sure the sugar isn’t a problem.

Thank you for all the responses. I cut out apples since then, about 4 days, and there are the small poops here and there still. I have to add- and this is probably a huge contributing factor: she tried to dig up the carpet and pull it up with her teeth. I think she got just a few carpet fibres into her system from trying to pull it up. She chewed on a bit of our wooden coffee table as well – she’s lost interest in the table and the carpet ever since I bought her a timothy mat to chew and scratch at.

If the tiny poops don’t go away, do you suggest a visit to the vet? Or should I wait as she is scheduled at the end of July for a pre-op examination before getting spayed..?

We only offer water from a crock. She drinks about a full crock a day (about 1/2 – 1 cup of water and sometimes even more).

I would recommend seeing a vet. Wick has small poops sometimes, but it usually regulates back within the day. He goes on the safe diet of only romaine and hay if something weird happens.

One time, the small poop persisted for longer than a day, and we found out it was because Wick’s teeth were bothering him. After he had them ground down, everything went back to normal.

Update: So I stopped giving her alfalfa hay and apples and her poop seems to be normal. She’s been doing fine since! Thanks everyone for your help.

When you meet your new vet for the spay, let him/her know about your diet change with Janii and what happened. He/she may have some good advice/insight for you.
