Soooo, is it safe for Freddy to be humping things directly after being neutered? Because he started doing it right after the first day home from being neutered and hasn’t stopped since. I’ve pulled him off of everything (and me) as fast as I can so that he doesn’t hurt himself. This might be TMI but I’m worried if semen tries to come out of his newly snipped cords that something bad will happen. I don’t know. I have no idea about rabbit anatomy lol. While we’re on the subject, I don’t think he’s humping for dominance. He almost squeals out of nowhere and HAS to hump something (it’s almost always me). It’s getting tiring pulling him off of me. This is why I wanted to get him neutered in the first place. I can see him trying to be good, but then out of nowhere he squeals like the hormones just took him over or something! How long will his hormones take to calm down?

Normally it takes 2 weeks or less. It can last longer though.

I don’t know if humping is bad for him. There’s not a lot to do about it except what you’re already doing. As you’ve figured out, this is about hormones and even if the tries to be “good”, his hormones are stronger at the moment. Many boys do get a big hormonal surge after their neuter, it’s known as a “post-neuter craze” and it’s perfectly normal. Other hormonal behavior can become temporarily enhanced as well, like pee- and poop marking, territorial aggression, courting behavior (Circling, honking, nipping).

I’ve never heard or read anywhere that humping after a neuter would be bad. You could call the vet that did the neuter and ask, just to feel less worried.

I would think that the only way it would be bad is if he’s applying a lot of pressure or friction to the region where his stitches are which results in irritation or the stitches being pulled and inflaming the incision. He sounds like a very determined bun though Hopefully he calms down soon

Thanks guys! Hopefully he will calm down. Today he is mad at me. I have no idea why. He runs away when I try to pet him and is now just content to sit near me and honk at me. But petting is apparently a major offense right now lol. Oh hormones!!
