My rabbit is just over 3 months and his testicles have not dropped yet. But I am lookoing into different vets. I read sonewhere that you have to take your rabbit back to the vet to get its stitches removed is this true? Also what other things do I do after the surgery when I bring my rabbit home?

It depends on the vet and what stitches they use. Our vet used dissolvable stitches for our boy and girl so we didn’t need to go back to the vet for that, but they ended up having to staple our girl bun when she popped her stitches and THAT we had go back to get removed.

Also, make sure your bunny has a access to a lot of heat sources, since he’ll be cold for the first day. Wrapping up a hot water bottle in a pillow sheet will help, as well as providing towels or blankets to snuggle into.

Both mine (one male, one female) had slight complications so they had to back in for check ups anyway. But i don’t believe any stitches were removed…

My bunnies who were spayed and neutered had dissolvable stitches or surgical glue was used. I never had to go back to have stitches removed.

Males tend to bounce back pretty quickly after neuter surgery, but you still should keep him somewhat confined for the first few days, and don’t let him jump up on surfaces, which could cause the stitches to open. Make sure that you have plenty of his favorite veggies and fruits on hand to tempt him, in case he doesn’t feel like eating much after surgery. If a rabbit won’t leave the surgical area alone and keeps biting at it, you may need to put a cone/E-collar on him, but that is usually not necessary.

I just had my 3 month old rabbit neutered. They used dissolvable stitches inside and surgical glue on the surface.
No stitches, no return visit, no chewing problems.
The girl at the front desk said that they can’t reach the surgical sight, but I’m not so sure about that.
