        Hi all,

I posted a while back about getting Thor a stuffed animal – super adorable, my mom knit her a hedgehog.  She seems to really like him, and rolls him around with her, hangs out hear him, etc.

However, I have noticed that she will hump the stuffie quite often… does anyone else have experience with a fixed female humping stuffed animals? I know females can mount for dominance, but it seems odd that she would be doing this so consistently with a stuffed animal. Could they have mis-sexed her at the shelter? I’m fairly sure she is fixed, since she has great litter box habits and has never sprayed, but is there a good way to check this?

I’m not sure but good litter habits and not spraying doesn’t mean she has been spayed. My doe never sprayed at all, neither did my buck.

            Good to know!
I’m really not concerned about her, but was just wondering if the behavior was normal. I’m inclined to believe the shelter (an HRS chapter) about her being spayed and female, since they seemed pretty rabbit savvy. But I may ask my vet to check for sure at our next appointment!

It’ll definitely be worth having your vet check next time you go. Luna also mounted things and had perfect litter habits before she was spayed.

I assume that the HRS would not adopt out any rabbit unless it was spayed or neutered, but I wonder if you could contact them. Instead of telling them that you want to make sure she was spayed, you could always say that you and your vet wanted the details of her spay for her records. I’m sure the HRS must keep records of the date of the surgery as well as the vet who performed it, and other details.

Update to let you know I heard back from HRS and she was spayed while they had her, so is for sure fixed! You’re right, I don’t think they let any rabbits be adopted who are not fixed, but it is nice to know for sure.

Side note, now that we know for sure, I am eyeing potential bondmates more closely I have to get my hubby fully on board and wait until after we come back from a vacation in August. Here’s hoping I can get a new fluff this fall though!
