I need to leave for the weekend and am not sure what to do with my girl. I’d be leaving a Friday morning and returning Sunday afternoon. I think I’d rather leave her on her own than take her to a friend’s to watch but risk a house pet attacking or losing her or something.. so if I do leave her on her own should I just put a bunch of hay down and lots of water? I’d rather her be in her larger play area but it is 2 feet high with no cover so I’m worried she will get restless and escape. But putting her in her smaller cage seems mean. Anyone have experience doing this? I’m stressing out!

Is there any way someone could stop by at least Friday night and Saturday afternoon to check on her? More than one night seems risky, especially since rabbits have very sensitive digestive systems and things can happen quickly. Also, they tend to mow through hay pretty fast so I’d worry she’d eat through her hay stash too quickly. I think a pet sitter is your best bet, even if it’s just Saturday afternoon, to check on her food, water, and litter box for any abnormalities. A neighbor or family member, maybe? I also think the small cage is best. Two feet is easy to jump over and I’d rather my rabbit be a little frustrated for 48 hours in a smaller space than escape and get hurt.

I would never leave my rabbit for that long without having someone check on them. That’s too risky. What if they run out of hay? What if they soil on it? What if their water bowl gers tipped over? What if your bun gets sick? Too many cons.

I think it’s cruel to put her in her small cage with no time out of it for 48 hours. You need someone who can let her out into her play pen.

When I’m going away for a short time I have a friend pop over to feed and check on Theo every morning and evening to make sure they are eating etc etc and to feed them. Agree with others that a weekend is too long to leave your rabbit alone – if she were to become ill, 48 hours is a long time for a rabbit to go downhill and by the time you discovered her she could be in a bad way.

I agree, I would be worrying about her the whole time I was gone. It looks like there is a pet day care near me that would keep her there during my weekend away.
