So Clover has been passing a lot of cecotropes but also hard round poos. We still have her on an unlimited pellets and mix of timothy and alfalfa hay. I just don’t know what would be causing the cecos? I’ve read that kits will begin eating them but I’ve never witnessed that. Also, her urine is a reddish orange color. Could this be because of her diet? I’m cleaning her cage 3 to 4 times a day because of the cecotropes. She has also seemed to throw her litter habits out the window ? she will, still go in her box but not regularly.

Is she over 6 months old? Seeing the cecotropes means she isn’t eating them, which is often due to a too rich diet. It might be time to restrict her pellet intake and switch out the alfalfa hay. The urine color sounds normal – colors can range from yellow, orange, rust. As long as there aren’t drops of blood in the urine.

We have no idea how old she is. We rescued her from outside. Will switching the hay and restricting the pellet intake effect her kits?

Oh I didn’t know she had kits! I’m sorry, I thought you were referring to Clover possibly being a kit. In that case, don’t change her diet as my response didn’t take the fact that she had kits into consideration. I think the excess cecotropes are because of her diet, but yes her current diet is necessary if she has kits to take care of. I’m not really familiar with buns with kits so I’m not sure about whether or when the kits are supposed to eat their mom’s cecotropes. Her urine color is still normal though.

Kits typically eat their own cecotropes. I’d say keep doing what you’re doing… HJow old are her kits? She has all sorts of hormones going on with nursing those kits.I think that while her kits are with her, these behaviors are normal. About a month after the kits have been removed (usually when they are 8 weeks), then you can reassess and she should be back to normal.

The kits will be 5 weeks old on Sunday. They are growing so fast!
