My female Netherland dwarf rabbit who is about 3.5 years old has had bladder sludge and recurrent uti’s. she has been getting a shot of antibiotics (that she has taken before) for the last 2 weeks. After her shot I noticed her scratching behind her neck near her back and saw bright red blood under her skin. I thought it was from the injection but when I tried to clean it the blood was under the skin. I let her be for the week and gave her another shot the following week. This time I noticed a scab formed and she was still scratching that area. When I tried to inspect it she seemed to be in a little pain. I’m hoping it’s just a scab like we get and it will go away soon. Could it be anything else? Should I take her to the vet or give it more time? Thanks!!!

Rabbits are prone to injection site reactions.

If she seems very bothered by it I’d call the vet that prescribed the injections. It’s supposed to heal quickly. You can put antiseptic oinment on it, but don’t use any kind that has a painkiller added to it, buns can have really bad reactions to that.

Here’s some really good info: http://wildpro.twycrosszoo.org/S/00dis/Miscellaneous/Injection_reactions_rabbits.htm
