        Maybe it’s too soon…?
My common law hubby and I lost our sweetie April 29th…. We’ve been grieving pretty hard, watching an enormous amount of YouTube binkies, visited the local rabbit rescue’s fundraising sale, been in and out of pet shops looking at toys etc, been taking walks at dusk to spot bunnies grazing in the grass, disassembled Georgie’s condo home and donated valuable perishables (critical care, orchard grass, and pellets)

2 days ago a coworker told me she had spent her morning bicycling a bunny she rescued to the humane society. My man Andrew was there, picking me up from work, and heard as my response came tumbling out of my mouth. “Why didn’t you call me?!” With my empty nest I would have taken that bunny in a heartbeat!

Today, off work and with Andrew knowing, I went to the humane society – thinking I would ask about the new delivery – but instead I fell in love.

I sent pictures, and called him…. Then I picked him up to come and meet Laska.

Laska is on hold for us. Deposit paid – a donation if we don’t return for her. Now we are home and in turmoil.

I know it’s a fresh loss but Laska is so lovely; Andrew does not disagree but misses Georgie terribly.

Only you will know if you are ready , it does sound to me like you want this as you made the decision to go , to meet her, to take pictures and ring hubby , pay a deposit – it’s not a quick ” oh there is one at this petshop I came to to get something else”

Do you think it’s fear of “replacing” Georgie ? If so I understand your fear of feeling that but that wouldn’t be the case. This bunny you will love just as much but it won’t take away what he meant to you as you know I’m sure. I recently heard something that applies here I think ( if I Am reading this right ) – ” your love does not divide when you have a second , but it multiplies”

Rabbits can have a way of “turning up” when you need them. I think it’s wonderful you and Andrew are preparing to welcome home a new bun. She will probably help you with your grief over Georgie. Maybe Georgie even had a paw in this.

I have some pictures if you’re curious o&bm

This is one of the first pictures I texted home to Andrew

This is once I got confident enough to ask to meet Laska; I sitting in her enclosure and it’s been about 7 minutes

This is after 9.5 minutes of patience and not moving while sitting in her habitat

She came over and smelled me and I promised her I wouldn’t move…

Laska appears to be her full name, and she’s brown not white

Humane society says she’s a dwarf mix, looking at her I thinking there’s a lion head in the mix because the hair around her neck crests into a curl.
Ps. Hope the pictures take :/ I use an iPad to cruise BB

She is adorable, and I too came to think of JG’s Gina! Can’t wait to hear and see more of her!

                          So cute!

It sounds like you def ready for a new bunny. Never think of it as “replacing your bunny”. No one could ever take the place of the bunny who passed but I think it’s a lovely gesture, to offer a home to a bunny in need in loving memory of your Bridge bun.

Update: Laska’s new name is Hazel… And she’s sitting just over a meter from me in her pen as I am on the couch

We were happily MISinformed; her nails are intact (her chart said declawed but they’re all there)

She isn’t litter trained so that’s the first order of business before she gets more freedom.

Poor thing has some cage aggression, last hoomin must have been reaching in and grabbing her :/ That’s going to take TLC and a bunch of time.

Rabbit manicure day is going to be a boxing match the first few times I’m sure; as with cage aggression – once bunny realizes that boxing makes people leave her alone it’s a learnt behaviour against anything they don’t want.

More posts likely to pop up in diet & care because the humane society had some…. less than rabbit favourable dietary practices we’re going to change.

                              Hazel is very cute!!!!
I…I didn’t even know declawing rabbits was a thing that’s…messed up.
I’m sure she’s very happy to have a new home once she knows you guys are safe
It’s definitely not replacing your old bun. I got my current bun in memory of my dog passing. In no way a replacement once Lola goes…I don’t know if I could get another pet or at least a rabbit I’ll be too heart broken.

                                She is so Fluffy Cute!

Apparently we are the luckiest new bunny parents; with no training Hazel has decided that her litter box is a wonderful thing.

Every pee has been inside the box and we have a 90% success rate on poops in the box too! One tiny poopsey in her extended pen ONCE and it got tidied immediately and she was put back in her pen. Lesson learned because she hasn’t done it since and her area has grown.

The entryway, living room, dining room are rabbit proofed and she has been free run on 4 excursions now. Only when we’re around to supervise.

We have seen binkies and flops plus she has jumped up on the couch. She allows petting and has decided that apple branches are yummy chew toys.

No boxing since day 3 or grunts since day 5; it’s been 9 days.

                                Wow!
