I recently moved and the city I was in before had an awesome boarder about 40 minutes from us. She boarded out of her home, knew all about rabbits, and made sure that they had time out of their expen each day to get some exercise.

Where I live now, I can’t find anything! There is a vet near by that boards rabbits but they stay in cages and cannot come out to play. I know my bunny would be so miserable and so stressed so I would never take him there.

Has anyone ever had this problem? How did you find someone who could take care of your bun?

I am very picky about who takes care of my rabbit as I want to make sure they can recognize if he is sick, feed him well, and make sure he gets exercise and attention. At least a little bit…

I don’t need a boarder yet but I want to be prepared for when I do.

I know there are places like craigslist where you can put out an ad in your city but I really don’t like the idea of putting any information about myself out there for anyone to see. I also worry about sketchy people. Does anyone have experience with craigslist or similar things?

If there is a HRS chapter near you I would contact them! I found no information from my vet or online, but when I contacted our local rabbit shelter I found that they have a network of rabbit boarders/ rabbit sitters. Even if they don’t have a specific program, I bet a local rabbit rescue could give you some good resources

I contacted a (somewhat) local HRS. I did not even think about rabbit shelters! I will contact them now. Thank you!

Although, from what I can see so far there are not many rabbit rescues near me

Normally i pay a neighbor to watch my animals. I leave a detailed list and she comes by twice a day. She will b on vacation when my baby is born and although my bf will still b able to feed the animals, ill need extra help while he is staying at hospital with me to change lancelots diaper. He is my special needs bunny. I think the nearest hrs to me is 2.5 hours drive one/way…

Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find anything from local rescues. I don’t really know my neighbors and if I gave them a detailed list of the care I want for my bun, they’d think I was crazy! I hate the idea of him just being fed twice a day but not getting attention, exercise, and a good break from boredom. I also know that he is a trouble maker and when left to his own devices for a long time he is very destructive!

The boarder I used before is about 2.5 hours away now. He has made that drive about 4 or 5 times and did fine but each time got a little more stressful. . . I guess I could still use her but look into ways to make the drive less stressful and approach it that way.

But, if anyone has any other suggestions on finding a place I am so open to them! I know it’s probably going to be a dead end but I just don’t know what to do!

I have to be able to leave my town but I also will not do so unless Eli has a good caretaker. . .

I was wondering how far the boarder was from you now. Its worth contacting her to discuss options. Maybe she could suggest someone for you also?

I would look into online groups too. Mail list and Facebook groups where you can connect with other house rabbit owners in your area. Since you’re not needing someone just yet, youve got some time to really investigate how suitable a potential border is. It’s great you’re doing this now so you wont be under pressure when the time comes when you need to board him!
