        Hi!

So i had recently adopted my bunny from some of my fellow students at my school who could no longer care for him. The individuals before me did not know much about his age or even breed and were not giving him as much attention as they wanted or he needed. so everything about him has been a guessing game ranging from his age to his favorite veggies/herbs.

He is a total sweetheart and always pees in the same place in his cage and usually poops in the same place in his cage. He is usually in my room and roams whenever I am at home and has never pooped under my bed or in my closet or under any dressers when he is out. An occasional poop or two but otherwise nothing….until he discovered he was able to jump on my bed. The first time he jumped up he immediately peed where I moved him off the bed and cleaned it and would not let him back on for awhile. He has been very good with not peeing on my bed and has been very cute with laying on me and staring at me and getting snuggles. But now he has been pooping….like crazy. It used to be one or two but now its about 5 to 10 places in different spots. I have been nudging him off the bed with my hand and letting him know that he isn’t allowed on if he is going to poop.

I am not sure what else to do besides continuing to take him off my bed whenever he poops? He is not peeing and is just pooping and is there anything else I can do besides claiming my bed as my own and moving him off?

        Thank you

Is he neutered? Either way, do the poops have a stronger than usual smell? Because it sounds like territorial marking – him saying ‘this bed is very nice so I’m claiming it. Mine mine mine.’

The same thing happened with my bun and she would leave this strange smell as well. Their poop doesn’t really smell, but they can give off a weird smell (I’ve seen a spot left by my bun) that I guess is from affection/attraction. Once my rabbit was spayed it stopped. I also learned to deal with the peeing behavior is hard. They can do it as territorial of course which usually ends after spaying/neutering. But sometimes they have just have to go. The way to prevent it is to let your rabbit jump off you bed, or make sure they can get off and leave their cage door open (assuming you have a cage close to the floor). So your rabbit can move freely. So if your rabbit simply has to go, then they can go in their cage and go. The poop behavior for my rabbit pretty much disappeared once spayed. She sometimes will poop while out of her cage but not nearly as much before she was spayed.

He is not neutered yet! He will be hopefully be by the end of the month or first week of June (. His pee/poops smell the same as they usually do when he goes in his cage.

Yeah, his cage is always open just in cause he needs anything and I have never had problems in any other place that he likes to roam!

I’ve just been trying to minimize the amount of accidents he has on my bed because I can’t keep doing laundry every two days because of him peeing, ya know?

I am doing the nudging him off my bed and all of that but is there anything I can do in the meantime before he gets neutered?

              thank you!

Yes. Spread a plastic shower curtain or garbage bags on the bed. It generally deters buns
